Lens Dillema

Hi everyone,

Recently I just got myself into m43 system by getting GH4, ...I'm not a video guy by any means ( I may get to it someday ) ,but I just like the camera so much that I would like to invest into the lens a bit. So far I have Pana 25mm 1.7 and I love it, however I would like something narrower. I'm torn between Oly 17mm 1.2, Sigma 16mm 1.4 or Pana 15mm 1.7. Weather sealing would be welcome in my case since this would be my to go lens.

What's your opinion, is anyone using any of those lenses on GH4 body or any Lumix body?

Thank you in advance.

You say you want a narrower lens but all the lenses you've mentioned are wider.  So I'm guessing you're after a wider field of view?  Of those lenses, I think only the Oly is weather sealed.

I love the 15/1.7 with my cameras (Panasonic and Olympus) but haven't tried the other two.  The Sigma and Olympus are too big for my usage and f/1.7 is fast enough for me.  More is always better but not at the cost of increased size (IMO).

The only lens on your list I have used is the 15mm. It's a fantastic lens but it's not weather sealed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it even without the weather sealing.

I can only speak to the m.Zuiko 17mm f2.  I have found it to be quite the stellar lens, improving my keep rate, especially in lower light or night time shots.  I have used it with the G9 and the EM1 Mark II.

Re: Lens Dillema

Recently got the 17/1.2 and am completely smitten. A wonderful "standard-wide" lens for any conditions. Generally use it on an E-M1ii but have used it on the little GM5, so can't say too much about that other than any m4/3 body will be suitable. Importantly, the snap MF works with anything.

Now, the GM5 top 1/500 shutter speed (mechanical) makes wide-open use in direct sunlight impossible without an ND filter. Most cameras don't have that problem.

I admire shots from the 15/1.7, but don't have one.

Good luck!

Rick

Sorry, I meant wider..

Re: Lens Dillema

Thanks for replies, I could go with either one of those, however the WR would be helpful at times, plus I've heard somewhere that focusing may be not as good if i don't use panasonic lens on GH4, so I'm kinda hesitant of getting none Lumix lens.

Sold my 25mm, inexpensive but too narrow. Have the 20mm f1.7 that better suits me. Also the fantastic 42.5mm f1.7 for portraits.  But, most of the time, I prefer wider and use 12-32mm on GF/GM5 both fit in a belt case. Otherwise, I use G80 with 12-60mm or 14-140mm. Primes are great for speed but zooming using your feet isn’t always possible or enough, especially in cities and in large buildings.
