die is not likely

scale back in every aspect like sales/new lens/new model is most likely

will Panasonic exist MFT and leave behind all investment cost of its huge lens lineup?

not likely

but put money in developing MFT like before?

also not likely

no chance of Nikon 1/ Samsung like die

this is ok to me.  i consider even 16 MP MFT good enough for casual, non-professional use

actually more than enough with software like DXO PRIME

m43 might be most viable long term.

the 1 inch ILCs are gone, so next larger is m43.

where does the intersection between small sensors with computational photography and larger (but still cost effective) meet?

M43 already can continuously cache 10 images be for a shutter press.  It will soon combine 8 stills taken in 1/60th of a sec  into one 80MB image

it can shoot 60  RAW files a second.

Most of what it can do can be done for under $1500 and $3000 max.

You're going to get me started! LOL.

Do need to put film through that minox "spy" camera I have (well, one of them, I have two) .. and the agfa 6000 when it comes.

Also, love to try out a TLR, got the 120mm film just need a TLR with coupled lenses so can see focus as well.

Does anyone shoot with kodak folding pocket cameras any more? .. I have two kodak bellow type cameras (believe they are from the 1920s).

Re: I had both: good choice to switch!

In your case that makes sense but for me I have Canon glass and not much into video. If I had to though I could live with m43, I don't see much noticeable difference in IQ.

I would recommend the Minolta 'Autocord" TLR, I used to have one and regret selling it.

BREAKING NEWS: PANASONIC'S M43 ARM IN COMA, OLYMPUS BARELY TREADING WATER
2

Overnight M43 has been thrown into turmoil. After seeing that the new Sharp camera rumour was the hottest news topic in the world of M43, Panasonic have had a stroke on the M43 side of their body, leaving their M43 arm limp. With their other arm now being full frame, this leaves question marks over whether they continue with anything more than the Leica partnered GF series and a third LX100 in 2023.

We also heard from one voice in the head that Olympus "can't really be bothered anymore" after so many years barely breaking even. They made a loss in the last financial year ending 31st March 2018.

Maybe the maker of cheap but not quite the cheapest washing machines, tumble dryers, microwaves and fridges can save the day. Although The Guardian said "Sharp has teetered on the edge of bankruptcy for years, piling up eye-watering losses". They went on to say "Along with rivals Sony and Panasonic, Japan’s electronics giants have suffered steep losses in their television units". Perhaps the larger TV market is what caused the stroke in the imaginary body of Panasonic

Ouch!,  speaking as someone who had a major stroke thee years ago I winced at your analogy.

I awoke in hospital to find myself unable to talk, walk, or comprehend what was happening   I was wearing adult nappies (diapers ) , and was in a helpless and hopeless state -and my family were told that if I survived I was almost certain to be left with a cognitive deficit that would require institutional care for the rest of my life

The fact that I am able to type this, to walk and talk. to drive my car, and worry about the shortcomings of the M4/3 system (;  is solely down to the mercy of God.

Yes.

Apologies in advance to anyone who finds the above to be other than funny, or in poor taste.

So much BS baked into one post, impressive. Sharp entering is a healthy sign for the future of m43.

It is good to hear a story like yours that has a good ending, my cousin wasn't so lucky, he lost the ability to speak.

Thank you.

M43 has been "dying" since before it began according to some, it ain't going anywhere. Its got awesome lenses, good variety of bodies and 2nd only to Sony it seems for general technology/features (but better in many ways like quality kit lenses, size of specialist lenses and it had HDR 4K video specs way before anyone else).

Black Magic are baked into M43 with the world's cheapest good 4K cine camera, its actually a benefit so people can speedboost already spectacular lenses like the 18-35 Sigma f1.8. If M43 gets 8k first too, it will seal the deal that it ain't going anywhere. Sony's APSC announcement yesterday sounds bit like the LX100II: very late with nothing much to write home about. Fuji has some great things happening but lenses are big and only about 8 don't have autofocus like the ancient Panasonic 20mm.

I feel for him  I did have aphasia  for a while, which made it difficult to process thoughts coherently.  May God extend to him the same undeserved that He showed to me.

Re: I'm buying an m43 despite m43 death rumors!

You are in luck. There are a few good cemetery plots still available at decent prices. You'll need one for each M43 body you decide to get before the Rupture (our version of the Rapture, where we all erupt in laughter after our cameras are declared dead).

I have extra black shirts and pants left from my wedding shooter days.

And you'll need some "final expense insurance" of course.

Sadly, there is already a waiting list for the wake afterwards, but Olympus top brass is looking for a bigger venue. It will be a "themed" wake - Mourning M43 in Margaritaville.
