Power OIS replaces Mega OIS

I owned the old version for years and it worked well. The zoom mechanism always had a sticky poit and the AF and OIS were not great.

This new lens is much better in all of those areas. I'm very happy with the trade up to the new version. I don't know how much better the Image Quality actually is, bt I'm getting way more keepers. I love it!

I'm glad to hear this, I just bought the 100-300 II used (excellent condition) for 300€, including a quality filter and the adapter handle for the tripod.

When Panasonic released Power OIS it had a graph on its web site showing the improvement over Mega OIS.

With DUAL IS it should be even better.

I shot with a v.I lens about 7 months ago. I got some sharp images from it, but the AF was slow and hit-or-miss (low keeper rate), and both the zoom and focus rings were very stiff. The focus ring was so stiff that attempting to do AF+MF was just impossible.

Someone put a v.II lens on Craigslist near me for a good price, and I ended up buying it two days ago after checking its operation. Zoom and focus rings are smooth, the AF seems much faster and more accurate, and of course it's weather sealed and Dual IS capable. The new version is a BIG improvement over the original version, or at least, over the copy I tried.
