VF-4 is expensive

Luckily mine came with the camera as part of the clearance deal I got from a dealer who was getting out of the Olympus line.  So essentially, I got the lens and VF-4 for slightly more than a lone body.  But I know that right now, the VF-4 is really pricy.

Re: IBIS and Sigma 30mm f/2.8 ART

on my E-P5, when I use the LCD, IBIS blurs the 1/15th- to 1/60th second shots I take with my Sigma 30/2.8. when I shut it off, handheld results are decently sharp at 1/30th and tack-sharp from 1/60th. Is this a known problem with the 30? Or maybe it's using the "10mm" setting that I set for my fisheye.

If the Sigma has lens contacts it should be telling the IBIS to go to 30mm setting and that focal length should appear on the screen.

If it is only that lens that behaves like that in the 30mm range then I would suspect the lens of doing something strange.

With my muddle of Olympus and Panasonic lenses (from 9mm up to 300mm) and the Samyang fisheye (IBIS set at 8mm for that), the E-P5 (two bodies) IBIS works fine for always about something more than 4 stops of stabilisation and sometimes 5 stops.

Make sure that the firmware is up to date and that zero second anti-shock is enabled and used.

Re: A fantastic affordable camera you can still buy new from eBay

Hi all. Just wanted to kick in my 2 cents/pennyworth. I have way to many cameras, but I did see a deal on new/old E-P5 on US Ebay last week. $259US for a new E-P5 body. Couldn't resist and I picked one up.

It arrived yesterday, factory sealed, and I unpacked it this morning to charge it and set it up, so I've no more than half a dozen quick snaps to make sure it's working. I did have to update the firmware from 1.2 to 1.8, so that's how long it's sat around on some dealer's shelf.

I've never held a camera in the E-P series before, but I have to say that I just love the heft and feel of it. It feels very solid in-hand and the control layout feels good too.

I know this is old hat to a lot of you, but I do think this camera will get a lot of use going forward.

a black E-P5 deserved black lenses

Congratulations, Alan. If the E-P5 will be your main camera, resist the urge to buy silver lenses. You'll be happier, I think, with black lenses, even if you must order the lens from abroad...as I recently did to obtain an Olympus 17mm f/2.8 pancake lens in black (for my white E-P5). I also recently ordered a BCL-0908 body cap lens in white. Both had to be ordered from Japan...as did my white E-P5 itself.

Alan,

I love my E-P5 and it is my main system camera for my photography pursuit.  Made amazing prints out of it and if I want to make even bigger prints, I use both my Panasonic Leica 25mm and use the 45mm to stitch to make even bigger prints.  All in all, it's one heck of a value camera and my E-P5 continues to work forever.  If my E-P5 fails then I'll just buy another one to replace it.

They typically arrived even after a few years at V1.0, it depends upon the production run.

Update the firmware, enable zero second anti-shock in the custom menus, and then use it via the diamond mode in the shooting menu. I've never seen shock in either of my two E-P5 by doing that.

I have tried to better explain the menus so between my page and the user manual you may find some help. http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~parsog/olyepl1/56-ep5-custom-menus.html

It's a good camera and very likely my last M4/3 camera, it does all that I need.

An American seller has at least 10 (probably 20) black E-P5s, new in their sealed boxes, for $260 U.S. , with free shipping ..

Just ordered one last night, so much for that new 20/25mm prime in the next few months.

Yes, I've just revisited your page, where I discovered something I had overlooked for almost 2 years: Those diamonds that denote which modes use 0-second anti-shuttershock. All the times that I've used the 2-second or 10-second timer, I'll bet I was using the non-diamond mode. Thanks, Guy, for your setup page.
