Trying to sell my samsung gear

Is there still a market for it?

I have a nx300 with 18-55 and 45mm prime with accessories

I have been trying to sell it for some time without luck. Is there still a market/interest for it?

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4340638

my guess is such a kit will only attract interest from loyal/current samsung gear owners?

I think your guess is correct. I only bought into the NX platform to give me a low-priced mirrorless camera to mount third-party lenses (via adaptors) that I couldn't use on my DSLR.

If I'd been looking for a system "upgrade" I wouldn't have purchased a system with no foreseeable support

Anyone interested in a 45mm NX-fit lens is likely to already have an appropriate camera and may not want a second, similarly someone looking for an entry-level system may not want to immediately invest in a premium lens.

I'd suggest you adjusted your pricing accordingly, making the components individually available.

Good luck

The key is patience...
1

The reality is that if you're looking to sell in a relatively short time (or as immediately as possible), then dropping the price to an enticing "buy now" level will do the trick.

Look, nobody can attest to the fact that electronics severely lose value, than I have.  Since 1998, I've owned or extensively used over 150 different digital cameras - with my having sold many of them (keeping those that I believe are "keepers").  I've had to sacrifice many a price in order to get the gear to sell.  We tend to value our gear at a certain level, yet to the rest of the world that value is greatly diminished - bummer, I know.

So the key to selling your gear is "saturation bombing," or as I affectionately like to dub it (being a retired US Marine).  That means posting your gear on as many "for sale" forums as possible.  Believe it or not, the DPReview for sale forum is not one of the best - although I have sold an item or two in the past.  And add to the fact that you cannot revisit your posting - in particular, after a period of time has passed - to edit, makes it all the more hopeless.

I tend post mine on the following sites:

1.  DPReview

2.  Craigslist (believe it or not, I've sold 50% of my gear on Craigs at or near asking price as long as you have the patience).

3.  eBay - at a "Buy it Now" arrangement - not bidding.

There are a variety of other For sale Sites such as FM forums (although you have to pay an annual fee to sell there).  So the more places you have exposure, the better of law of averages work in your favor.  I typically post my gear in 5-6 sites.

Now as to the patience part.  If you want to get what you feel is right for you, then you may have to wait - perhaps a few months.  If you can do that, then good!  Just periodically update the posting and if need be, gradually drop the box as time goes on.

If you need to move the gear - perhaps, so you can purchase something else - then you have to weigh what the gear will really sell quickly for.  I know it's painful.

As for me personally, I will NOT sell my Samsung gear.  I just admire them so much (in my case the NX20, NX300, and NX500 - along with an EX2F).  Whenever I review IQ levels of those cameras from images taken in the past, I'm just gratified to know I still maintain them.  You may very well regret selling your Samsung gear in the near future - and then it's too late.  Think about it...

I'd sell the 45mm prime separately because it is a stand out piece of glass and still fetches a good price. I sold my copy recently for £240 (UK).

The NX300 and 18-55 make a good combo but are not really in short supply so you'll have to sell cheap. I briefly had an NX300 and it only cost me £80. Sold it on without using it when I got a 2nd NX500.

RE: Scammers on eBay...

The scammers on eBay are so predictable that it has become pathetic in their ongoing feeble attempts at trying to snatch your gear.

But they are easily recognizable and usually only appear right after you first post your gear. Typically, you will get a text or email that says "Is this item still available?" Notice they don't mention what the "item" is? Usually it's pretty terse. Sometimes (they are getting smarter), will include a sentence or two that almost sounds legit.

So the uninitiated sellers usually get excited, thinking they've got a potential sale, and reply to the ad. Then a period of time passes and in some form the scammer will respond along these lines (not necessarily in these exact words):

"Great, I'm very interested, however, I'm out of state and work 12 hours a day. I can send you a certified check and have somebody come by (usually a family member) to pick up the "item." I will also include an additional $50 for shipping (or any variations thereto)."

Now it really becomes hilarious when they say they'll include an additional $50 to $100 more for shipping. No legit buyer will do that.

Well, again - to the uninitiated - you're thinking that's great deal, so you await the check in the mail. When it arrives, you deposit it, but the moment you get it, you've already sent out the gear (because you're honest). A day or two later, you're notified that the check is bogus. Or, the scammer will pay via PayPal. The uninitiated seller will be excited as he gets what looks to be an official PayPal email (the key is to look at the exact email address that is listed on there - the name may say PayPal, but if you look at the properties, you'll see a strange looking email address, which is a huge clue).

OK, so the uninitiated seller gets excited and clicks on the email link to check his PayPal balance. He/she enters their email address and password. Two things happen right then and there:

1. The scammer now has your PayPal information and log-in and can wreck havoc with your finances on that account. The scammer can go in and change things like the shipping address and log-in password - all unbeknownst to you (until you try and log in the next time).

or...

2. You don't even click on the mail link because you assume it's all legit. So thinking you actually have cash in your account (due to the bogus PayPal email notification), you pack up the gear and ship it to some PO box that the buyer provided you. You send the gear and that's the last you'll see of the gear - or any money for that matter.

SO WHAT TO DO: The moment I sense a scammer, I screw with them, such as:

1. When I get the initial terse text, "Is this item still available?," (Again, many scammers will use this impersonal, generalized question) I immediately respond with, "Ohhhh, what item is that?" OK - so they don't expect this and you can just see them researching or thinking, "oh sh_t, what item was that...?"

2. If they want to keep up the scam, they'll respond with the pasted in title of your ad. Then ask more questions - which they don't want to answer. Make them communicate - and any of their responses will usually sound canned retort.

3. In the end, I end it all by saying, "Sorry Scam-baby, I accept cash only and in person - no shipping involved unless it's all legit, and oh yes...I personally check my own PayPal account (not that one you may send me)." That usually ends it all. And in that email, I'll paste in an animated GIF of a hand moving with the middle finger extended. Haaaaaaaaaaaaa

Re: Trying to sell my samsung gear

I recently tried selling two of my lenses through CL and Facebook market place and here in the for sale section - and got no bites. I finally relented to EB and set the starting bid at the absolute minimum I was willing to let them go, and set what I believed to be a fair buy it now price. One lens sold within hours, the other one has 3 bid so far and will close today. EB simply reaches more people.

Scammers exist everywhere, you just have to be smart about it. Agree to meet in a public place for an in person cash transaction. Be prepared to walk away if things don't feel right, or if the buyer tries to renegotiate the deal. I've bought & sold plenty of things this way and never had an issue.

My experience is camera stuff should be sold in spring or summer. Late fall or winter is generally a terrible time to sell.

I sold everything on ebay for the roughly same amount I bought it, sometimes more, sometimes less. So far I sold:

NX500 - $550 (with 16-50 PZ) ($600)

85/1.4 - $560 ($590)

SEF20A - $80 ($70)

EVF10 - $80 ($44)

16/2.4 - $200 ($200)

20/2.8 - $175 (got as a part of a kit)

45/1.8 - $243 ($200)

30/2.0 - $185 ($160)

10/3.5 - $290 ($220)

Metz 44AF-1 - $135 (gift)

Numbers in parentheses is buying price.

I kept 50-200, NX-M adapter, NX Mini, 9-27, and 17/1.8mm.
