Be sure to check out the "min shutter speed setting" in the ISO speed settings tab.  You can set the min shutter speed to a fixed number or auto with - 1, -2 or -3 stops from 1/fl rule.  I like this feature a lot

Also IS is not great for people shots, they never seem to stop moving   For people I use the fixed min shutter speed of 1/60 or 1/125 for people that should be non moving.

You can do all the testing you want but it does not always mean good results in the real world shooting.  I would advise GO shoot and see what works best for YOU.

There was a time I could shoot at  1-2 stops under 1/fl but that was long ago now its more like 1-2 OVER 1/fl, so IS is a God send   Now in a low light setting the first thing I do is look for something to brace my back against.
