Really huge trees - or are they?
4

I experiment a little by photographing seemingly huge trees in Sweden:

A huge oak tree (Quercus robur), it seems.

A massive pine tree. (Pinus sylvestris)

A large white fir. (Abies concolor)

Enormous pine tree. (Pinus sylvestris)

Another big pine tree (P sylvestris).....

A respectable sized Norway spruce (Picea abies)

More to come.....!

Tall tales, perhaps? Some of those are quite believable, but others seem too good to be true.

Re: Really huge trees - or are they?

This pine tree has grown fast the last year because of global warming.

My point is that every tree in this thread is a photo experiment in PS. Thats all.

I was genuinely confused.  Nice 'shopping.

I couldn't tell that they were photoshopped (although I wasn't looking too closely for artifact pixels).

This presentation would be stronger if you chose 5 of the best images (biggest trees, which look most realistic), and including the "Before" and "After" image, similar to one you posted in the middle.

And then present them (1-5) from smallest to biggest.

By having too many images, it got boring, because the drama was broken by familiarity.  I think 5, and "Before & After" would be impressive; choosing most dramatic trees, from smallest to biggest experiment.

Cheers!

THIS kind of presentation is MUCH more compelling & intentional.

I am sure people will be far more impressed & less confused at what you are doing, if you show them this way.  I know it loses a bit of the "is this real or is it fake" mystery -- but with short attention spans and trees as a subject, people are likely to gloss over and not think.

But here, it is clear and they can spend time on the quality rather than figuring it out.

Thank you for your kind words

I try to figure what camera angle is the best to make the tree the most impressive.

Also the light makes a big difference when it comes to realism. I think sunny days are clearly the best with all the play of shadows, but the sun is nowhere close to shine for the moment. Here is one from today, with camera almost on ground level.
