I am having a problem with Photo Studio Ultimate 2019. After the initial install and program run, I can no longer use the program. I am getting the dreaded "ACDSee has encountered a system error and will close now" error. I can't use the program. I have checked the internet and there are several people reporting this problem. I sent a problem report to ACDSee but they have not responded. Any solutions to this problem? Ultimate 2018 does not have this problem (for me). This is the first time I found any of the ACDSee products to be unusable. I have been using various iterations of the product for quite a while now. This is the first time I have been really disappointed with the product and their lack of customer service. Thanks for any suggestions.

I found a solution (that works for now). The catalog files for various versions of ACDSee programs are by default, stored in various sub directories in the users\<username>\appdata\local\ACD Systems\Catalogs. It appears that if the size of the overall catalog files get too large, Ultimate 2019 encounters a system error. Ultimate 2018 does not. As a temporary measure, I deleted the directories that contained catalog information for previous versions of ACDSee products (except for Ultimate 2018 and 2019). The program now starts up.

ACD Systems needs to address this problem.

Unfortunately, the problem has manifested itself once again. The startup error is back. The program will work again if I delete the catalog, but that is scarecely a viable solution. So for me at least, Photo Studio Ultimate 2019 is a dud. So far.

I had the same exact issue when I upgraded this weekend and also sent a ticket to support. I tried deleting the catalog files but eventually the system error would come back after a bit of time. What appears to have worked is doing a clean install of the latest graphics drivers. I have a Radeon FX 560 and used the Radeon Adrenalin software to do the update. I haven't had an extended amount of time to test the software, but at the very least I was able to use it for about 2 hours straight without crashing. Interestingly, I also installed PSU2019 on my Dell laptop and had no issues at all, with both 2018 and 2019 running stably. Generally ACDSee issues their first update to the software around Dec/Jan, so I'm hoping they'll address it in that release.

Have you called ACDSee to establish a trouble ticket? You can also do this on their website. I find them pretty responsive; I had the same issue with an older version. I seem to recall they sent me a "cleanup" .exe file that cleans up the registry. Support requests can be done here: https://www.acdsystems.com/en/support/form

You might want to check the ACDSee user forum also here: http://forum.acdsee.com/forum/acdsee-pro

Thank you for the replies. I filled in the support request five days ago but heard nothing from them. I installed the latest version of the video drivers. I cleaned my system registry. I uninstalled and installed Ultimate 2019 and the problem persists. We'll see if this problem is fixed soon.

ACDSee Support emailed me back and asked me to install ACDSee Standard 2019. Apparently, they do the cataloging differently. The ACDSee Standard 2019 works well (as expected). No system errors. Hopefully, ACDSee will fix the problem soon.

After ACDSee support asked me to load Standard 2019 and after using the software for a day without any startup error, I decided to do an experiment. I deleted the Ultimate 2019 catalog directory and then renamed the Standard 2019 catalog directory with the same name as the Ultimate 2019 directory (in this case, 220 -> 120Ult). So far, Ultimate 2019 has started reliably, without any startup error. I wonder if there is a problem with the creation of the initial catalog files in the Ultimate 2019 software that is not present in the Standard 2019 version.
