Panasonic make smart features - "AF SCP"

I owned a GX8 and GX7, neither had this, they have been working on new things (is it on others besides the G9?). It's called AF point scope (SCP), it's basically a FN button feature that triggers a PINPOINT AF PIP square as long as you hold down the FN button.

I have loved PPAF ever since i used it on the GX7, it's great for maneuvering to the exact spot you want in focus. The smallest AF square is already pretty small, SCP lets you get your zoom square to about 1/3 of that size, which is a very tiny overall focus point.

It might not be as easy on every body since you have to hold down a FN button to engage it (not sure if it can be set to toggle), luckily the G9 has several buttons to choose from. But it's an improvement on an already slick design, i really like where Panasonic are going with their features.

Re: Panasonic make smart features - "AF SCP"

GX7 and GX85 has to select PPAF by entering the AF mode and select it, a 2 steps operation.

However when we lock focus, keep shutter half pressed, turn the Focus ring of native M43 lens will switch into MF mode, the PIP magnified focusing screen prompt up, as well as FP (GX85 only) for manual focus fine tuning. It can call up a similar operation like PPAF in 1 step. Could it serve your purpose?

The problem with manual focusing is it's not as fast and the only issue with pinpoint auto focus is the Box will eventually disappear and I don't have control over that. This new SCP mode gives me more control over it without giving up the automation that I like.

Perhaps I was unclear in my original post but this new version on the Panasonic G9 is perfect. I was just curious if anybody else had found it very useful and if it's on any other cameras.

Max, there is a menu item that allows this function to be toggled.  Find it in the focus menus under AF Point Scope Setting - "Keep Enlarged Display" should be turned on then its push to turn on and push again to turn off.
