Viltrox Focal Reducer on a 70-200 F/2.8 lens (shooting video)

Just wanted to mention that there’s a pretty big advantage to this combination as it turns out. There was speculation on why would it be beneficial to use it this way but just wanted to separately point out that it has a benefit when shooting video in low to dim lighting conditions.

I opted for this combination over my 5DmkIV simply because it’s smaller, lighter, and has the tilt screen with my M5. I brought the combination to shoot my son’s holdiay concert, and found it focuses really fast in the dimly lit gym. The ISO settings were able to go much lower as I set it all to F/2 reducing noise or need for noise reduction.

Personally I still only use prime EF lenses in the wider (standard/normal) range with the adapter, but still most times than not, use unadapted EF-M lens before I use this adapter. But seeing how well it works in video situations, I’ll be trying more zoom lenses with it in those lower light situations (24-70 F/2.8 will be a great combination for example).
