Photos recently taken with a Nikon D100
8

Just thought I would post a few photos that I recently took with an old D100. I don't use it much any more except to occasionally take infrared photos. Here are a few recent photos. I am curious if there is anyone else on this site who still has or uses a D100.

These are nothing special but they do show that the D100 can still take photos. Of course technically the images are not nearly as good as what the current crop of cameras can do.

I'm also using a D100 to do infrared photography, with either a 720 nanometer or 665 nanometer filter attached to the front of the lens. This example was with a 720 nanometer filter and a Tamron 17 mm - 50 mm f 2.8 lens. The exposure was 1 second at f11, ISO of 200.

I'm glad you posted this IR example, I'm going to try this with my D200.

Thanks

Be advised that the D200 has a filter built in to filter out the IR so as to increase image sharpness. The D100 does not have such a built in filter.

An integral part of the IR conversion service is removal of the camera IR filter. . .

I’m honestly a little intrigued by the D100’s color output thanks to Maoby’s camera comparisons. Makes me wonder if I like the look of images without an IR cut filter?

Have you got any experience with this body prior to that with our mutually beloved D200?

Nope, just the D200. . .

Perhaps he means he wants to go stick one of those IR lens filters onto his lens, not shoot with a specially converted camera.

Regarding the discussion about the D100's infrared filter, it does have one but it is rather weak.  Here are a few shots taken with a near infrared Hoya filter and the D100. These were all taken with an older Nikon 20mm F2.8D lens.

These are false colors resulting from manipulation in Photoshop.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! After seeing some of Maoby's comparisons recently, I really liked the camera's color signature and I actually bought one on eBay. They are dirt cheap to experiment with, so why not?

Interesting. Do you have any other DX cameras to compare it against? If so it would be great see if the color signature Maoby showed for it was reproduceable.

I hope to get around to doing a comparison in the next few weeks. I have a D40, D80 and a D3000 to compare it to. They are all CCD cameras. I've read that the D100 has a weaker IR/cut filter, which may or may not influence the color.

That's my thought as well. Just like you for fun I ordered a D100 from MBP.com to see for myself. When it comes in I can compare it to the D1X, D60, and D200 but these are all CCD color kings in their own right. I don't have any CMOS dx cameras so I'll be keen to see how your D3000 compares!
