600D With strange coloured artifacts.

Hi all

This morning my 600D seems to have bricked itself. A few seconds into recording a video clip I got these awful coloured artifacts which covered the screen, they stayed even when the switch was off and I had to take the battery out for it to turn off.

In addition Live View goes black and the mirror flips back down after a few seconds with the camera inoperable and "busy" flashing in the viewfinder. After I take a photo with the card it is perpetually in "busy". I honestly don't have a clue what has gone wrong.

If I do take a photo with the card in sometimes it wont even give me the "busy" notification and just make the camera inoperable, if I turn it off the red writing LED stays on and it beeps at me if I open the card slot.

I've tried 3 batteries, all the SD cards I own which is about 7 or 8 with every combination possible with the exact same results.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Jake

I see that no one has answered you today.  I don't know the reason either.  It sounds like something that would need repaired.

I think this problem is going to be taken care of through the repair process.  It appears to be a problem that is internal hardware based.

I've had it for 6 years so It's well out of warranty, I've just got myself a 6D but I really want to keep it as a backup and sentimental reasons. It's probably not worth repairing though.

I doubt it is worth repairing.  You would be better off applying the repair funds to getting a refurbished SL2.  Yesterday I saw the SL2 with kit lens for $399 on Canon's refurb site.  I have the SL2 and it gives you 80-85% of the capability of the 80D for a fraction of the price.

Just grasping for straws so take this with a huge grain of salt but one thing you might try if you decide to not pay to have it fixed is doing a firmware update to reinstall the firmware.   I doubt that will work and it could make it worse if the firmware update fails but if firmware somehow got corrupted there is a small chance that could reset it.

I've tried redoing the latest firmware already, plus downgrading then upgrading. New problem is I've managed to totally round off the last damn screw I needed to take out with the crap screwdriver I have. Another forum said it could be a loose cable on the mobo but I now can't get it. I think it started when I put in one of my colleges SD cards into mine from their 700Ds, they've been having problems on all of them where the live view goes immediately black, so I think I've somehow copied some bad firmware or something to mine, bricking it.

I have a 6D so all is not lost but it's a shame to let this one go like this as it was my first ever proper DSLR I got like 6 years ago, nice paperweight I suppose.

I never thought of the 200D, the 1080p60 is nice as I do a bit of filming on the side, thanks for the tip!

I have owned the SL2 since Canon released it.  It is one of my favorite cameras I have owned.  It has far exceeded my expectations.  You will love the DPAF focusing of the SL2 in live view and for shooting video.  I also own a 6D and 90% of what I shoot is with the SL2.  It is a small, lightweight and just a fun camera to use.  Also the kit lens is wonderful.  It is one of the sharpest lenses I own regardless of price.  I bought it for shooting video since it is an STM lens but found it is so good for stills that I use it quite a bit when I am shooting in good light.

This camera looks like it was used a lot. Not worth fixing for sure. How many shot did you have on it?
