"Failed to connect" to devices SX-60

Just bought a used SX60 which appears in excellent shape, but I cannot get it to connect to either my Iphone X or my iMac. I'm mostly interested in the phone. I've downloaded the app, opened it and pressed the phone button on the camera. I get a screen to select "connect to smartphone". When I press it I get a screen that says "Connect a Device". The only option is "add a device...". When I press that I get a rotating figure that says "searching for access points" and then after a few seconds, "connection failed". Also tried it with the Mac. I could get further but after entering the appropriate PW and trying to connect I get the same stream. Is the app up to date with the most current iOS operating system? I can't get the camera to give me a wifi access point either....

I have many times had similar problems establishing a wi-fi connection between my Powershot cameras and my android phone.

I noticed that the cameras both defaulted to my home wi-fi router as the access point, and both cameras refused to search any farther after discovering the router.

To fix this errant default issue, I deleted all wi-fi information from both cameras, then took both cameras with me to the local coffee shop to get the cameras out of range of my home router.

At the coffee shop, I was able to get the cameras to connect with my phone with no problem.

From that point forward, both cameras default to searching for my phone as their access point and the connection is made much more quickly and reliably than before the resetting of the wi-fi data.

Hope this helps.
