None -- Canon will either stop making EF lenses all together or not make another EF lens until the RF lens lineup is more fully fleshed out. New EF lenses will be come from third party manufacturers only.

think EOS R. EF lenses will die on the vine and canon will stop making them 4-5 years! 2nd hand EF lens market will be deluged with old EF lenses and a lot of the owners will probably hang on to their ( L lenses), old folks like me, specifically

The EF 500 F4 lll and 300 F2.8 are rumored to be in the works.  The 400 F2.8 and 600 F4 lll are now available for pre order... and soon to hit the streets.

I'm thinking about what happened when Olympus launched the E-M1. They said that the FT lenses should continue in production. What happened? Soon they started to make excellent lenses for the mft system like the 12-40/2.8 pro which was the first in their pro line. Ft lenses just disappeared. And they didn't make any DSLRs any more, although they had a high end model in the pipeline.

Same will probably happen with Canon. They will go entirely for the R system. They just don't say that loud yet.

This would likely fall under the last category in the poll.

Can't see them not bringing out a new 1DX for the Olympics in 2020, and that will probably come with some new high-end glass with the 300mm & 500mm likely, along with a standard zoom L" kit" lens, or a refresh of an existing one.  There may also be a new prosumer level DSLR in that time frame for those who don't like mirrorless for whatever reason, and that might also come with a new EF (or maybe EF-S) kit lens/refresh.

They only have so many production lines though, so I think the main focus is going to be RF going forwards, with any new EF lenses being entirely dependant on how well the DSLR bodies continue to sell.

yep. DSLR and EF done sailed. to produce more EF lenses or FF DSLRs would be an admission of failure. aint gonna happen.

Of course, that's the eventual fate.  But you think that Canon is cutting the cord right now?

I think Canon will release additional version III big white lenses (e.g., 500mm version III) for professionals, who will continue to rely on the 1DX series until Canon comes out with a mirror-less version, which is probably a few years away. Canon can't half step with a mirror-less 1DX, they have to bring a quality mirror-less replacement to entice professionals to switch.

I'm sure those lenses are already in the pipeline.  But what about new lenses that aren't?  Do you think Canon will stop new EF lens designs immediately, or just slow it down?

How long have we been waiting for that 24-70/2.8 IS (which you put first)? 15? It may never come, after all; we may see the RF version instead.

I think EF lenses are on a death watch. From a business perspective, I don't foresee Canon supporting both EF and RF lenses very long. However, Canon needs to produce some much better EOS R cameras to ensure the success of the platform. I'm not impressed with the EOS R.

I'm curious how things pan out.  My plan is to wait a few years and see how things go.  At the end of that time, my 6D2 and EF lenses will basically be worthless if Canon stops making DSLRs and EF lenses.  So, if I'm starting from scratch, I'll decide then whether I stay with Canon, switch systems, or go dual systems (perhaps Canon for the RF 50 / 1.2L, rumored 24 / 1.2L, and EF compatibility, and likely Nikon for everything else).

In the meantime, it's understood that what I currently have is already [way] overkill for my photography, so no worries one way or another.

I think the last option in my poll may be the most likely.  The only new EF lenses we see from Canon are the ones that were already in the works before the R was put out, and any new EF lenses will come solely from third party.

how about if we admit we don't know? love these lame theories and speculations lets face it, folks, canon wants your cash--whatever it takes and is convenient for canon!

'Tis a fact!  But it is fun to speculate, is it not?
