Here a mini comparison between the D100 of 2002 and the D70 of the year 2004

https://www.flickr.com/photos/maoby/albums/72157676380875098

Nikon D100 (2002) / Nikon D70 (2004)

Nikon D100 (2002) / Nikon D70 (2004) 100%

Nikon D100 (2002) / Nikon D70 (2004) 100%

The arrival of the Nikon D70 was a blessing for the Nikonist !!
Followed by the Nikon D200 in 2005, Nikon was in business
And in 2018 I am very happy with my D500

I realized at the beginning of the year a comparison between the Nikon D100 and my D500

Always interesting to see the evolution.

Nice comparison as always, Maoby. Thanks.

The D100 seems to look noticeably cooler than the D70, D200, and D500. Between these renditions which do you think better reflects the original scene?

Very good question, difficult to answer, it would be necessary that our brain stops lying to us constantly.

Haha, although somewhat true that doesn't help me figure the D100 out.

Let me ask it another way... I have a D1X, how would the D100 output compare color-wise? Similar as it is of that earlier Nikon generation?

Re: The Nikon D100 compared to his little brother of 2004

Despite a total of 121 comparisons, I have not tested between them yet!

I added it on my list (test coming soon)

Currently for the Nikon D1x, I have four comparisons

Nikon D1X (2001) / Nikon D1H (2001)
Kodak DCS 760 (2001) / Nikon D1X (2001)
Canon EOS-1D (2001) / Nikon D1x (2001)
Nikon D1X (2001) / Nikon D500 (2016)

and seven for the Nikon D100

Nikon D100 (2002) / Canon EOS D60 (2002)
Nikon D100 (2002) / Fujifilm S2 Pro (2002)
Nikon D100 (2002) / Sigma SD9 (2002)
Nikon D100 (2002) / Canon EOS-10D (2003)
Nikon D100 (2002) / Nikon D70 (2004)
Nikon D100 (2002) / Nikon D200 (2005)
Nikon D100 (2002) / Nikon D500 (2016)

See here : https://www.flickr.com/photos/maoby/albums

With already seven comparisons with the Nikon D100, you are surely able to make an opinion!

Yes, I looked at the D1X vs. D500 and the D100 vs. D500 comparisons. The D100 was consistently colder than the D500 while the D1X was consistently warmer than the D500! Strange, isn't it given that the D1X and D100 are closer in age than the D500?

It would definitely be interesting to see a direct D1X vs D100 comparison as I'm wondering if the lack of IR-cut filter in the D100 imparts this generally colder color difference we are seeing.

Thanks again for doing these retrospective comparisons, Maoby. No one quite has the gear collection you do!

Re: The Nikon D100 compared to his little brother of 2004

I had the Nikon D100 and the Nikon D70s, but I had the Nikon D70s first.

Both as old used cameras. But I used them to try to get shots of my daughter at her gymnastics competitions.

Now I shoot Nikon D750 and D7000 for her cheer competitions.

The D100 is an old camera. If I shoot with my D7000, with the same effort I can get a lot cleaner images when shooting indoor sports. So less than ideal light / no flash allowed. So same effort, cleaner pictures. It's hard to walk away from that.

But . . . the D100 did have ISO 3200 and 6400, which I did use for shooting indoor sports. And the reason I bought it after the D70s, which only went to ISO 1600.

The thing that the Nikon D70 had was the new iTTL flash system and the ability to high speed flash sync to dumb flashes.

There is a reason I at least updated to the D7000.

But, if I were to want to play with these old cameras, I'd been torn because each had its benefits.

Take care & Happy Shooting!
