List of Powershot Cameras that can do Remote Shooting from Canon's iOS App...
1

This is a reorganized, numerically arranged list of Powershot cameras that can do remote shooting via Canon's Camera Connect iOS App.*

I had a hard time deciphering their convoluted list, so I cleaned it up for easier reference. Figured I'd post it here as there might be other people interested in which cameras are supported in iOS and can do remote shooting.

Note: The information comes from Canon; I make no claims as to its accuracy!*

WiFi transfer AND Remote Shooting

ELPH 190 / 340 / 350 / 360 /
IXUS 180 / 182/ 190 / 265 / 275 / 285 /
G1 X Mark II & III / G3 X / G5 X / G7 X / G7 X Mark II /
G9 X / G9 X Mark II
N2 / N100
SX60 / SX70
SX420 / SX430 / SX432 /
SX530 / SX540 /
SX600 / SX 610 / SX620 /
SX700 / SX 710 / SX720 / SX730 / SX740

Wireless transfer ONLY; NO remote shooting!

A3500 / A3550 /
ELPH 120 / 130 / 320 / 330 / 530 /
IXUS 135 / 140 / 240 / 245 / 255 / 510
G16 /
S110 / S120 / S200 /
SX280 / SX510 /
N /

*See the detailed original list, with far more information, at the following link:

https://global.canon/icc/

It covers:

”1) Wi-Fi connection with the camera for image transfer and remote live view shooting.
2) Adding location information to camera images.
3) Bluetooth connection with enabled cameras.
4) Auto image transfer with enabled cameras.”

The biggest problem with using their list is that #1 combines transfers AND remote shooting and the camera lists that follow are littered with asterisks identifying all sorts of exceptions (i.e., cameras that can do transfers, but not remote shooting.

I had hoped that the list might be wrong about the ELPH 330. Alas, it is correct. Transfers only; no remote shooting.

One other important caveat. Just because Canon's list identifies those cameras capable of remote live shooting, it does not mean that one can do videos remotely. Canon doesn't make that distinction clear. For some years, video remote shooting was not possible; it may now be.

Indeed, Canon suggests the Camera Connect app now support video remote shooting.

SHOOT REMOTELY WITH YOUR MOBILE DEVICE

With the Camera Connect app, you can use your mobile device to shoot remotely with your Canon camera. Compose your shot, set the zoom, focus, self-timer and more through Remote Live View Shooting, then release the shutter – all from your smartphone or tablet. The photos and videos will be saved on the camera.”

It's the phrase, “photos and videos” that implies this.

Hope others will chime in on whether video remote shooting can be done with the app!

Unless things have changed (which I hope they have), I discovered today that the manuals for both the ELPH 360 and SX720 explicitly state that

“Movie shooting is not available”!

That's really too bad.

Full video control, time-lapse, slow-motion, and an intervalometer should be in the app, as well as built into all the Powershot cameras themselves!
