Canon SL2 and 18-135mm STM makes a fine travel cam

Visited Portland over the Thanksgiving weekend.  Enjoyed the rain very much which we don't get much here in California. My 15 years old daughter handled the camera for the entire trip, while I used a camera of another brand. All images are straight out camera JPEG. In my opinion the SL2 is a big step over SL1 in terms of color depth and dynamic range.

Well when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

And your daughter makes some d@mn fine lemonade indeed! Please pass on a big congrats for me. Great shooting, and a really fine eye she has for composition. (And what struck me most was the chosen point of view in the photos!).

I love the 18-135 STM for walk-around. Very versatile. And you’re right, the 24 MP Dual Pixel sensor is a nice upgrade.

Enjoy your shooting (the both of you),

R2

Thank you R2 for your kind and encouraging words, which I forwarded to my daughter. Now days kids have many choices of hobbies compare with old days, I do wish photography could turn into one for the life time of hers, just like many many members of this forum, we all feel the joy and blessing of having this hobby being part of our life all the time!

The pictures are wonderful. Come visit in late May and June. You will see photos like this at the Rose Garden.

And one more of the "green steps"....

Your daughter should be proud.  I know that you are of her. I'm guessing that Santa is bringing her an SL2???

Tell your daughter she did a great job with the photos.  I hope she keeps up with photography as a hobby, or maybe even a career.  The SL2 is such a great little camera and , IMO, is a perfect one for a budding photographer to use to hone their skills.

Thank you Digirame, Lepewhi, MikeJ9116 for your compliment and encouraging words, it means a lot to a kid!

To me, photography is more than just light, color and composition, it's also the over flow of the humanity in all of us photographer, that seeking emotion resonance and connection, when the subject taken not only touched ourselves, but a few others, we feel the completion of this emotion journey.

Thank you all for your kind participation of my daughter's photo display!

Agree with everything said before!  Lovely shots from your daughter, and I also hope that she continues to enjoy this hobby!

The SL2 seems to be a fine camera (I own the SL1 and others, but have never shot with the SL2) worthy of her explorations.  I've always thought that lens was pretty special.
