External Flash Canon T6

Is there a reason why I can’t select the flash mode?  Do I need to hook up an external flash so I recognizes it so I can click on the flash mode?

Canon EOS Rebel T6 (EOS 1300D)

It’s a little hard to tell from the (over)exposure, but is the Flash Mode selection greyed out?

Could be the Exposure Mode you’re in. For kicks, try Manual mode once.

It’s also possible that the flash modes are limited with this body.

Good luck,

R2

Yes. The built-in flash on most EOS bodies (and all entry level) is auto ETTL only.

Do I need to hook up an external flash so I recognizes it so I can click on the flash mode?

Yes, assuming it's a model compatible with the EOS flash menu. Older models (pre-2007) of Canon EX and third party aren't.  If they're ETTL, they'll work, just have to make settings using the buttons/controls on the speedlite rather than in-camera.

In the manual (page 199), Flash Mode is grayed out. The chart shows "E-TTL II (Fixed)". I think that the Fixed means that there is only one choice, so it is grayed out.

On page 200, the External menu shows choices for Flash Mode based on model of flash.

Perhaps the Flash Mode line is present so that the Internal & External menus are the same.  Possibly another camera using the same basic software would have choices for Flash Mode.  [FYI, not grayed out on my 60D which has a Manual Flash choice perhaps not available on the T6.]

The manual that I referenced is http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/8/0300022698/01/eos-rebelt6-1300d-im-en.pdf
