Bamburgh Castle
24

I was lucky enough to have a bit of spare time on a recent visit to Northumberland.  So I took the E-M1 to visit Bamburgh beach.  It's a much-photographed spot, but I was lucky with the light.

I had been wondering if I might sell the 12mm M.Zuiko, as I don't use it a great deal.  It earned its place in my bag that morning.

Bamburgh Castle at sunrise

Patterns in the sand

Defending our island over 1,000 years.  Tank traps from the last century.  The tallest tower of the castle dates back to the 12th century, but there has been a fort on the site for hundreds of years before that.

Bamburgh Castle

A stroll on the beach.

The last two were with the Laowa 7.5mm.

The flip screen of the E-M1 is great for this type of shot.  The weatherproofing too.  The base of the camera was in contact with the sea.  And, yes, my socks got wet.

I reckon a good day's photography is one where I use all my lenses.  I had five with me (in a small shoulder bag) and used them all within about 45 mins of getting on site.

A particularly photogenic place, but needs work and luck to bring it out properly. Your stunning shots do it justice.

I don’t know how many photos of Bamburgh Castle I have seen, so even competent photos can seem run of the mill. Then sometimes someone captures something a bit different and the beauty floods back, and yours are definitely in the latter category.

It is a very good set, but I particularly like the last two.

Thank you.  I am slightly surprised as I considered that a more self indulgent shot, rather than a'crowd pleaser'.

It's also not very representative of the location.  The patch of course, black sand was only about 10 square metres in area

I thought the first might be liked.  Dawn sunlight and mist are great elements to stir into a photo.

The second is (so far) my most heavily processed shot from the session.  I blended two or three layers to work the contrast.

It's a beautiful place to start with but you've brought it to life. Great set.

Thank you.

I was lucky with the weather conditions.

I don't do much landscape photography.  I tend to forget just how fast one needs to work to grab fleeting moments when they are offered.

Thank you Pete

I was in two minds about going there because it is so popular with photographers and I doubted that I would get anything very different. I deliberately avoided looking for images from others although I was interested to identify some of the popular angles and locations.

If I have got something a bit less common in the last two, that will have come from playing to the strengths of the m43 gear. Many 'serious' photographers would use FF DSLRs on a tripod. Using a hand held OM-D it's tilt screen lets me get a lower angle. It's not all about megapixels and sensor size!
