Is this issue most likely due to faulty battery or camera

Okay, I recently went on a trip overseas and my Samsung NX300 stopped functioning suddenly.

The camera does power on and sometimes freezes as well so I have to take out the battery to power it off or else it will just drain the battery and die.

The screen appears black but the problem may not be the lens as the screen also looks totally black even when I take out the lens.

That is what I see when I turn on the camera.

The following is what I see when I take off the lens.

The fact that the camera powers on and shows icons on the screen suggests the battery is good. My best guess would be a loose connection from the sensor, or, less likely, a failed sensor, but how you'd go about determining that I can't help. Maybe there are on-line instructions on how to disassemble this model to check the connections.

Good luck

Seems like a disconnected / bad sensor. Check the service manual here: https://elektrotanya.com/samsung_nx300.pdf/download.html. Opening this camera is pretty easy. Check the sensor connection to the board, remove - reconnect it and if it still does it then maybe it's time to replace the camera with another NX300 (or NX500). You can find a good copy around 100-150 USD. Replacing the sensor would cost about the same (https://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-SAMSUNG-NX300-CCD-SENSOR-PARTS-FOR-REPAIR/283033617638?hash=item41e61e44e6:g:bNAAAOSwBt5ZFf6Y) but if you can't figure the issue then it might still fail (another electronic part failure).

Do you think it would be expensive to repair if this is the case?

I bought the camera second hand. It will probably not be worth repairing if it is expensive. I don't really know about cameras so will probably have to take it to a shop.

Okay, I did open the camera. Please let me know if you can see any visible issues. This is a pic of what is visible.

I might be wrong, but it seems like your camera was repaired in the past. There's an NX200 flat cable in there from 2011 (NX300 is 2013 model).
It's very difficult to say like this, but my money would be on that cable being the problem. Go watch few clips on YouTube on how to detach / reattach flat cables and try it. Just be gentle.

Edit - I was wrong, that cable is apparently normal. Here's ifixit teardown

Remove and re-insert the ribbons in these locations. Do it with care so that the ribbon locks do not fall away as they are difficult to put back. A plastic tool would help. Once you remove, re-insert them, then do a test without re-assembling the camera. While it is open and if you still have a black lcd, push/pull the sensor ribbon to see if you get anything on screen (remember to remove cap and have it pointed somewhere with light).
