Canon EOS R Replacement Poll

I am interested in knowing what system cameras people used before they acquired/ordered the Canon EOS R and how the new R system will affect that. I understand some people have several systems that they use for different use cases. So in order to get useful data I am phrasing the poll along this line:

Which of your current/previous camera systems do you think will be (or already got) most affected (ie. sold, less used. etc.) by your purchase of the Canon EOS R?

So I am asking about the personal gear consequences for you as a photographer - not your best guess for the industry as a whole.

If you already switched from another system camera to the R then pick that one in the list. If you notice that one of your current systems/cameras now gets a lot less use than before, after getting the R, then pick that one.

Suggestion for narrowing the scope
4

I have a suggestion for narrowing the scope of your survey that I think might be more helpful to learn about the previous buying decisions of people who have or would buy an EOS R. Finding out specifically what model of Canon or Nikon or Sony or whatever brand of camera that the respondents currently own that they would replace with the R would be more helpful; for example, I now shoot mostly with 5D4's, but aim to get an EOS R to initially replace my one 5D3 that I now use mostly for backup. For now, before I have long experience with the R, I wouldn't want to stake my professional reputation on limiting myself to using only it for work, without retraining the bodies I already know work well for me.

I sold my M5 and all M lenses after getting the R.

I've barely picked up my 5DIV since getting the R, and if that's still the case in a few months, I will consider selling it, too, while it still has some value.

Also, while I do use my cameras at times for my profession (graphic design), I'm not a professional photographer - just a hobbyist - so I don't need a multiple cameras and whatnot to make a living.

Agree! The options were too broad.

Yes that,s my question too.

I am running a similar poll over at the Nikon Forum. I am interested in understanding the differences (if any) between the place the Z6/Z7 take compared to the R and how it affects the rest of the mirrorless players.

At this point in time the answers in the two polls look fairly similar. Findings so far are:

  • A few people switch (back?) from Sony to Nikon/Canon (11-13%).
  • Most people stay with their brand and possibly retire their existing DSLRs (60-70%).
  • Mirrorless APS-C gets less use or sold In (9-13%) of the cases. This includes people moving from the Canon M line, Fujichrome, Sony and others.
  • A few people switch from a Canon or Nikon DSL to the other brand's mirrorless (2-6%).

That still doesn,t explane why you want to know all this.

I am still happily using my 20D. Yes, I know camera technology has come a long way, but I still get "Oh Wow, how did you get that color"* when showing my prints to family members.

(*) it is mostly a careful and deft hand at post processing.

Maybe just because it's interesting?  Why do they have to have some big reason?
