How do I lock the focus on an M100 ?

Is there a way to focus on an object and then keep that same focus distance for subsequent photos ?

After clicking a photo, don't fully release your shutter button. Keep it half pressed.

Yes there is. It’s not as straightforward as on other m cameras, because there is no dedicated MF button.

What you do is:

1. Make sure the “Continous AF” is disabled. (In the menu)

2. Half press the shutter button.

3. Set “Focus Mode” to MF. (In the menu)

4. Shoot.

5. Remember to set “Focus Mode” back to AF. (Or AF+MF)

Page 144 and 145 explain where this is and how to access Manual Focus on the EOS M100.  Have you not read the M100 Manual?  I would recommend doing so in order to understand many of the hidden features this camera possesses.

What I was looking for.   Your explanation is better than the manual.

Essentially, focus (even using auto) and then switch to MF and the focus will not change (unless you turn the ring on the lens).

Thanks,

Does the M100 have a Custom Function to disassociate AF from the shutter button?

Then could you use the touchscreen for AF? With Continuous AF disabled, and One Shot AF enabled.

Or can the ( * ) button be reconfigured for AF? With Continuous AF disabled.

Using the menu to lock focus every time sounds like a real pain, esp if one does not want to use manual focus every time either.
