Time on Panasonic Lumix GX7

Probably the same question for many of the Panasonic cameras.

Up till now I've just set my camera to UTC/GMT and corrected later. But I thought I try out the Clock Set, World Time/Travel Time and Date for an upcoming trip. I'm in Calif (-8) and going to +3. I set these up on the camera and everything looks OK in the camera. But when I import to macOS Photos the time are at the destination (which won't happen for several days). I checked the EXIF info and it appears all dates are the destination

Has Panasonic just messed this up or am I missing something?

I do not see a problem.  You took the photos at local time, in the local time zone, but placed an +11 hour time correction on the photo.  Therefore the time on the photo reads +11 hours ahead.

Your computer, however, is still based on local time.  Therefore your computer applies it's own Last Access Time, which of course does not reflect the +11 hour correction

Therefore AFAIK, everything is fine.

I am very stupid on the time zone and so upon the time stamp hard to judge.

However, might I ask had you set to use destination time instead of home time? Just set the destination time zone without apply it, the time stamp will remain home time.

I have to merge photos from various cameras and purely relying on the time stamp of the photos. I have no problem from GX7.

Re: Time on Panasonic Lumix GX7

GX7 been used for 3+ years and travelled with me for many times without issue. Last trip to Spain, I set the Destination time zone a few days before departure, but forgot to set the Destination Time on the first day, messed up with the time stamp and hence needed FastStone to change the EXIF for me.

Not sure what happened to you if you had done it properly.

Re: Time on Panasonic Lumix GX7

Can you confirm that the date and time were correct before you left on your trip when you set it up ahead of time?

I usually re-confirm the clock among the 3 cams, GX7, GX85 and GF3 1~2 days before departure (the internal clock of the cams never accurate and pinto a few mins different every few months). But that is to synchronize the home clock only.

I usually set it to destination time by hand on the day I am there. I keep doing it to all my pany cams in last 15 years.

I now realized that I have overlook the feature allowing me to set the departure day and let the cam to adjust the time zone. But it might not be useful since I might cross more than 1 time zone a day.

This is what didn't appear to be working for me. But I think I'm going to approach this in a different way. The reason I was concerned about time was that I used to write location information to my photos after downloading by coordinating with location information from my GPS. My GPS recently died and I knew when it did I would more than likely just use my iPhone for GPS (I have enough devices already). In getting ready for my upcoming trip I started reviewing the GX7 manuals (I've only had the camera five years!, but I hadn't been using it much lately) and today finally dug into how location logging works with the iPhone app. I'm going to give that a try.

The first step in using the app for location logging is to "sync" the time. I did that and it wiped out the time and date info I had put into the GX7. In other words if you're going to use location logging, forget about world time and local time setting on the camera. Not that the manual mentioned this.

Thank you for replying. It helped me work through this.

Since the departure date is set for Nvember 9th, of course the camera won't do anything on November 6th.

What I would do is set the departure date for November 7th, and the travel time zone for your expected destination. When you wake up, set the Mac for the time zone of your destination.

Now take a few shots, upload them to the Mac - this is what happens to uploads during your trip.

Now reset the timezone on your Mac and reboot; reset the travel date and select the home timezone on the camera, powercycle the camera.

Upload the same images to a different folder on the Mac - this is what happens to uploads after your trip.

Re: Time on Panasonic Lumix GX7

Good idea. Thank you, but because this conflicts with Location Logging for now I'll not be trying it.
