It seems logical, but he didn't even give the rumor a [CR] rating, so the rumor source must be pretty bad.

I have no idea what, but it's a safe bet that Canon will announce something at CP+.

Does anyone ever actually announce a new camera at these shows nowadays? Was a camera was announced at Photokina? I got the impression pretty much everything was revealed prior to the shows but possibly one of these new full frame without a mirror thingies was announced or a new medium format.

I am not sure the cheaper end stuff will be highlighted at these shows nowadays.

It's too bad they wouldn't do that to the G5X, sigh.  But then again, that would make the camera more desirable than the G1X III for many of us.

Interesting too, if reviewers find out the new I presume Canon designed sensor is outperformed image wise by the G7X II Sony designed sensor.

Does anyone think the G7X III will be as good as the Sony RX100VI? Especially 4K video that is always crippled on Canon. I have the first version of G7X and was about to buy the RX100VI. I may wait if the G7X III is promising.

In the Sony RX100 VI, 4K is crippled in that (DPR) "4K video is limited to around five minutes".

At $1,200, the Sony RX100 VI is in a different price class than the G7 X. I don't expect a $700 camera to be as good as a $1,200 camera.

Oh, well. The G7X I and II don't have 4K at all. And it is the closest Canon camera to the RX100. I wish they were comparable.

If a G5x mkii ever did get released, I'd like to see some changes:

Autoswitching between macro and regular distances for AF. Seen this is various Canon cameras. Just seems like an unnecessary step that doesn't appear in other brands.

More robust AF in strongly lit and low light situations -perhaps employing side helper points to aid in focus grabbing. Better CAF

Faster refresh on the EVF. Larger EVF.

Replace exposure comp dial with multipurpose dial (needs to be more free spinning then) to replace aperture ring.

lost Highlight/Shadow indication on screen. I have this in my Olympus cameras and find it better than the histogram for keeping what I want in the photo.

faster burst in RAW and buffer.

4k video even if it is short bursts.

Some aesthetically pleasing filters that are one touch HDR, out of the smartphone look. In camera RAW processor.Perhaps some fancy computational bokeh and digital zooming.

Manual zoom and manual focus ring instead of aperture ring/assignable ring

Although more focal length is nice and I would like it sharper, I don't have interest in the slower lenses of the RX100 VI and TZ200. I would rather a growth in size be done to accommodate a faster aperture lens. 24-100 F1.4 -2.5.

Re: G7 X III (and maybe G9 X III) arriving in early 2019 (RUMOR)

If Canon will push the G7X III a bit in the the direction of the RX100 VI, then it's probably something I'm into. At least if they address the biggest flaw of the RX100 VI.

I think the G7X II is great, and the extra reach over the RX100 III/IV was a deciding factor for me back then. The touch screen and general better user interface was also something that appealed to me.

Now I'm in the mood for downsizing my gear (because of a lot of travelling with just hand luggage). My ILC-cameras and zooms are to bulky and heavy, and I shoot primarily with my Fuji X100F. I love it, but I feel the need of a small camera with a bit of zoom-capability, that can handle the occasionally wider and tighter shots, at least in daylight.

For now, the G7X II can do the trick for me, but I sometimes miss a little bit more reach and a panorama function (or a bit wider lens). I was really close to pull the trigger on a refurbished RX100 VI at B&H, but with the rumors of the G7X III in the back of my head, I think I'll wait for the specs to hit the streets.

As good as is relative. If you're talking about the pictures they put out, the G7X is easily comparable and even superior in some aspects.

If specifically 4k is what you're after though, they Sony will probably produce better 4k.

We could set up a quiz.

It cannot be lens sharpness as we are reliably told here Sony RX lenses are impeccably sharp corner to corner, edge to edge at all focal lengths and apertures as opposed to the indistinguishable mush from a Canon lens.

It could be the mind boggling price but the owners of contemporary high mark Sony compacts will have little understanding of this concept of value. Even if the best camera you can get costs a million dollars one just goes out and buys it as one must never compromise.

Possibly the moving diopter lever as that little EVF pops up with great force.

Oh. I forgot to mention it. In my mind it's the lack of a built-in ND-filter.

And a price not over $1000.

Sigh. There was a flurry of press releases out of Canon earlier today with no G7X III in sight. Maybe tomorrow with the start of the show.

Yes. CanonRumors seems also have got second thoughts now:

https://www.canonrumors.com/canon-to-bring-a-new-4k-camcorder-to-ces-2019/

“We had assumed we’d also see the PowerShot G7 X Mark III announced for CES, but everything has been very quiet on the PowerShot front, so we’re not sure what’s going on there.”

But not all hope is lost, yet.

I've been saying this for 2 years for every camera show. Haha. I won't say it this time, so maybe we'll get lucky.

I tend to look at the rumor sites with a jaded eye but I do put a lot of stock in what Nokishita puts out there. They were the source of the set of G7X III photos.

If memory serves, right before a camera's release, Nokishita releases nice "marketing department photos". The photos of the G7 X III that they posted with the ruler aren't as fancy as that, so maybe it's not yet ready for release.

Oh well, there is always the CP+ trade show. http://www.cpplus.jp/en/
