GH5 firmware 2.4

I haven't done much with it yet, but thought I'd report that with SAF it seems to have perhaps gained the fun issue my GH4 used to occasionally have with DFD, which is to get focus confirmation but have a totally blurry image and repeated focus attempts still leave you with the very blurred image. The only way out was to focus on something at a noticeably different distance.

I used to get this maybe 1 in 200 on the GH4 but have never seen it on the GH5 (in 10 months). Of course today might just be the first time I ran across something the GH5's AF didn't like and it would have behaved the same on 2.3, I have no easy way to tell.

With the GH4 I thought it was maybe something to do with water, but this was a stone wall with writing. It did have much brighter content through an arch. I was using a single centre point for AF. Lens was the 12-60 f/2.8-4, was other lenses on the GH4.

Re: GH5 firmware 2.4

the download page has this notice:

"When the firmware is updated from Ver. 1.0, the folder numbers and file numbers inside the camera are reset. If you want to continue recording from the folder numbers and file numbers on the SD Memory Card in use, select the folder for saving data from [Setup] menu ⇒ [Folder/File settings] after updating the firmware to Ver. 1.1."

is this an old notice and does indeed apply when going from v1.0 to v1.1? or is the 2.4 update going to reset my file number?
tks, /guy

this update went blindingly fast compared to ones in the fast--only about 15s or so.

i might note that the .bin file must be on card#1.

It was surprisingly fast here too...

Example

Okay, so I went back twice to try to reproduce this. The first time the Sun went in while I was travelling there and I didn't have any issues. Today the Sun was out (although not at quite the angle it was originally) and I could make it happen sometimes.

Here's my first failure, note I had an AF confirmation beep. I was using a single small centre AF point and AF-S. The AF point it at the lowest part of the centre of the arch. (Sorry it's not level or well framed, I was trying to make it happen by moving me, the zoom and the framing.)

I've seen this on my GH4 with a different lens from time-to-time, this was the first time I've seen it on my GH5.

All images SooC JPEGs.

Later I manged a sequence of images as follows, all had an AF confirmation... Here the AF point includes the underside edge of the centre/top of the arch (although the GH4/5 AF points have historically been known to stray outside their designated boxes anyway)...

Note my objection is not that it couldn't focus but:
(1) It said it had
(2) It then stayed with the unfocused image for a number of further AF attempts (historically I've only been able to recover by aiming at something at a considerably different distance so this was a little different, but maybe I gave up before 5 attempts previously).
