If Canon's intent was to drive some customers to more profitable SLRs, it worked in my case. All the things I didn't like about SLRs are still true, but they overcome what I don't like about Powershots. I still have, and use, my SX40 and G6, but there's nothing in the Powershot line-up that has made me re-think changing.
It shows how Canon have this fixed user base they can rely on in that you switch to SLRs probably because EOS M is such a lacklustre semi-dormant system and seem unaware that plenty of other excellent mirrorless options exist.
It always intrigues that on this forum the alternative to a Canon fixed lens system is often only considered to be another Canon format when fixed lens cameras have little lock in to brand.
You seem to be making assumptions about my camera choice without evidence as a basis.
I had plenty of reasons for opting for a Canon SLR, not the least of which was the introduction of the 80D.
I do not actually know what an 80D is and you as with many other posters expect me to know because I use Canon kit. I used to go and look it up but it is not really relevant. I am basing what I say on your statement which talks about Canon working on moving people to SLRs specifically.
I am a purely mirrorless user for years and it as though mirrorless does not exist in many posts which intrigues me.
Are all the cameras on your gear list mirrorless? And why would a purely mirrorless user be posting on the Powershot forum?
I considered mirrorless and didn't find a compelling argument for adopting it. You can accept that, or not.
