Hm, some funny camo there. One piece of a black adhesive tape torn casually. They did not even use scissors. (??) It must have been done on a double. Who knows, maybe for fixing the hs cover/cap so that journalists/visitors couldn't detach it by accident ?!

It will be seen when first production batch copies arrive at stores.

Oooops....!!

That tape was supposed to go on the inside, to collect and trap dust (and flies.)

Maybe Canon gave a last-minute order to remove the hotshoe and the tape covers the hole where they pulled it out of the prototype?

Hmm. Let’s see , canon sends an unannounced canon for review. You have to sign and uphold a NDA . What do you do. You want to go try it out in the big bad world.

That’s right cover the model name and number over so no one can take photos of you using a new model. NDA still intact .

Just out from the dumbing down process?

Probably a case of who cares what it looks like or does marketing as we are Canon people will buy it whatever. I would think the engineers may have built a superb prototype and this is what it looks like after passing through the accounts department and the bean counters have finished with stripping it back to the absolute bare essentials Canon style.

Re: Just out from the dumbing down process?

Marketing depts of different manufacturers have lately showed different weird behavior. Remember Nikon's silence and playing dumb with their DL series fiasco.

Now I am surprised seeing Canon doing weird things including awful inconsistency with presenting SX70 HS specs on various Canon web sites and elsewhere. As I believe the bridge market isn't so negligible as it may seem.

I cannot wait to get the cam in my hands. It should be a good one or...

I expect I will be still trundling on with my G3X endlessly cursing its failings but not really seeing much to better it at the price. Sony seem to be setting themselves up as the new Leica at the moment but flogging old stuff off cheap to try and keep the flipping skint market in their sights.

The market is really weird at the moment and a painful adjustment is in process with smartphones chomping away but a plateau could be reached at some time with a core user base of camera owners. The units shipped for fixed lens on CIPA look a bit more resilient at the moment over the last few months than ILC so the idea that seems to be around that ILC is somehow immune from the smartphone threat could be a bit over optimistic. Shuffling lenses and the cost of lenses and the sheer size of full frame and lugging it around in a backpack could seem an even more alien way of life to the smartphone generation and the convenience of a smartphone an even greater relief for your sanity, bank balance, back and shoulders for even those current users tired of all this paraphernalia.

If Canon's intent was to drive some customers to more profitable SLRs, it worked in my case.  All the things I didn't like about SLRs are still true, but they overcome what I don't like about Powershots.  I still have, and use, my SX40 and G6, but there's nothing in the Powershot line-up that has made me re-think changing.

It shows how Canon have this fixed user base they can rely on in that you talk only of switch to SLRs probably because EOS M is such a lacklustre semi-dormant system and seem unaware that plenty of other excellent mirrorless options exist.

It always intrigues me that on this forum the alternative to a Canon fixed lens system is often only considered to be another Canon format when fixed lens cameras have little lock in to brand.
