The thing is that I have a SDq with 2 SA lenses only

So do I.

Look for a K mount bellows and an M39 to K mount adapter. Then you can use enlarger lenses, which are still fairly cheap, for macro and/or infinity shots.

Don't do it.  There is a guy in China who can do this but he only speaks Chinese and given the situation in China right now I'd say the chances of success are minimal.  I do have an SD1 Merrill converted to Canon but I'm traveling and won't put it on the market until late January or early February.  I had the guy in China do a Quattro for me as well that I sold here a couple of weeks ago.  Unfortunately I don't know how to contact him at this point and unless you speak Chinese it would be pretty difficult to communicate with him.  I do speak Chinese and it was still a troubled transaction.

If I were you I'd get a sony A7r X all of which are more versatile than a Quattro.  The IQ will not match if you're a pixel peeker though.

Hi guys,

Reviving an old thread but does anyone know who can modify the SDq please? I have one on hand and a bunch of EF lenses.

Would it be complicated /risky to do? (I could get a donor Canon EOS for the mounting system for cheap).

I saw a YT video where the release mechanism had to be added to the side of the SDq so I am not sure it involved cutting or if the lens release mechanism of the SD q can be used once converted to EF mount.

Thank you!

Thanks!

OK then I will not try to contact the guy (I am based in Singapore so if he had been in HK it could have been doable I think but China? No...). I am not a big Sony fan to be honest (I much prefer Canon and Nikon) + I have heaps of EF and F glass

Do you think I could do the mod myself using a spare EF mount from a donor Canon body?

I noticed the canon lens locking pin is not placed a the same place as the Sigma. Would you know how the Chinese modifier setup the lens release button on your moded Sigma?

Thank you!

there were a couple of conversions of SD14s iirc.  One was done by the owner but involved some very technical work including machining iirc.  The other was done by a shop but I don't recall much more than that.

It would take a lot of careful work.  I couldn't do it but I do have a machinist friend who might be able to but his skillset is way higher than mine.  If you have the skillset and the equipment then maybe you could but it won't be easy.  I think the guy in China made his own conversion parts and was likely highly skilled.  He did many of them and I'm pretty sure Mengaza's was from him.

Got it!

By the way, keep me in mind for when you want to sell your SD1 Merrill. I could be interested (I am based in Singapore).

Thanks!
