Best EVF in M43 world?
1

Hi everybody,

I got a used GX7 at a good price yesterday. Not much more than GAS really as it's not that different from my EM10 Mk1, plus I wanted to try out Panasonic cameras on the cheap before I make an upgrade decision down the road. Anyway, fun camera, I can see why some people call it a "classic", but I'm really not fond of the EVF. This confirmed that a good EVF is really, really important to the shooting experience for me.

This led me to wonder: which M43 camera has the best viewfinder in your opinion? The EM-1 MkII?

The G9 easily. Best viewfinder I've used full stop. Then, for me, the GX8 (big and tilty), and then the E-M1ii. After that I found the E-M5ii, E-M10ii and G80 much the same, but bottom of the pile, for me, are the ones on the Gx7, GX80 and GX9. Couldn't live with the colour tearing and difficulty getting them in focus.

Yeah, I always feel that the GX7 EVF is a little bit out of focus. Pretty annoying.

G9.

G9 is currently top tier wrt resolution and magnification factor and eye-point. EM1mk2 is the next best on spec.

G9 > E-M1.2

Next year the E-M1.3 or whichever will sport the new massive Sony EVF I think.

I use the EM-1 I and find it's EVF to be very good and it allows me to compose and adjust exposure quite easily. The OP may not need the very best EVF, just a very good one.......

G9's and GX8's EVFs are awesome

I love my GX8's EVF, same as everyone else, and as mentioned, G9's EVF is the best EVF ever, regardless of format, except maybe the Leica SL Typ 601's if you go by the resolution spec.

Here's a good list with cameras' EVF specs.

Yes. The GX8 viewfinder is very big and furhermore it is tiltable. As a lefteyed and weaksigtened person it is the viewfinder for me. Even better than my old Nikon F2S SLR (full frame) optical viewfinder.

The issues with these field sequential EVF's seems in part to be user dependent, I have no problems with it whilst for others it is wildly annoying

Same here. Glad I don't have a problem with mine on the GX85.

That said, it would be nice to have a better EVF, and I can easily understand why for others the small, 16:9 field sequential EVF on the GX series is a deal breaker. It's definitely not for everyone.

That is true my GX8 EVF is a tilt-able thing of beauty
