Micro SD cards and Micro SD adapters

I mostly record videos and stuff on my canon t2i(550d) running magic lantern nightly.

And i usually use micro sd to sd adapters cuz i have alot of good micro sd cards, but lately only one of my adapters work in my camera, All the adapters work n my PC and in my other cameras but they fail to work on my 550d. My t2i has also stopped working with other normal sd cards.

What could be the problem here and how do i rectify it?

Thanks

Firstly, you should not be using micro sd cards with adaptors in your camera, Canon advise against this for good reasons.

1. By using an adaptor your are introducing an extra set of contacts and this makes the system more likely to fail through bad connections.

2. If you examine the contacts on a full sized SD card you will notice that there are 2 of the gold strips that project slightly further forward than the rest, these two strips are the power supply and the ground to the card. The purpose of this projection is so that the power and ground are connected to the card before the data lines (and the last to be disconnected when the card is removed). This prevents data loss/curruption and card or camera damage. A lot of adaptors do not have the proper alignment of these connectors and therefore are more likely to cause problems.

I can't say exactly what is wrong with your camera, it could be that the camera has a fault on the card circuitry or just that the card socket contacts are dirty or worn out. You would need to get it professionally repaired as it is unlikely that you can do anything yourself.

Check the camera card slot to make sure nothing is inside preventing the card from being inserted all the way.

I've been using the micro cards/adapters for a long time now, without any problems at all.  Although I usually DL my images to the computer by cable or wifi, so I don't take them out very often.

Re: Micro SD cards and Micro SD adapters

Get new adapters.

I use a 256gb Samsung Micro SD card with a 5D4 without issue. The irony is that the adapter that the card came with seems to have bad contacts and is not reliable and an old random adapter I already had works perfectly well. I can record 4k without issue.

The original adapter that seems to not work with the 5D4 worked okay with a 6D for a long time.

If you're overclocking the SD bus, there's a chance the adapters can't handle that for some reason.

I have the same adapter and Samsung card. I have overcklocked my SanDisk together with 6D but haven't tried the Samsung card yet.

How exactly do you overclock a card, I would have thought that the overclocking would have to be done in the camera software itself.

Not that I want to do this or even understand why anyone would want to but I would like to know.

Overclock the memory bus in the card. Use ML in the camera to do so.

Gain write speed when video recording in raw. Also good when shooting in burst mode. Think I went from 22 raw files in burst to 29 raw files in burst with a 6D.
