Any idea on how I can get my Samsung NX300 up and running again?

Hi,

I have a Samsung NX 730. The camera has stopped showing a picture on the LCD when I attempt to put it into Auto mode or any other mode.

I have tried taking out the lense and re-inserting and the same thing happened. I also tried taking out the battery and re-setting to factory settings and the same thing happened.

On the last day that I used it normally, I downloaded the Samsung app on my phone to transfer pics to my mobile via Wifi. Could this perhaps have something to do with it. Please suggest ways to save my camera.

You can find attached a pic of how the camera screen looks by following the link.

When you remove the lens do you see the sensor or the curtains?

Hi Otto,

I am still a newbie in terms of cameras. The following is what I see when I open the lens. I am also noticing another issue in that now my camera often freezes when I am trying to adjust the settings and I have to switch it off by taking the battery out else it will carry on running till the battery dies. It does sometimes respond to the off command and this only tends to happen when I am trying to adjust settings.

Ok, it's not mechanical fault (there is a metal curtain that briefly covers the sensor when you shoot - it's not stuck over the sensor).

There are many possible issues, battery being one of them. We have just had another forum member suffer loose flat cable after a drop, etc. It's very difficult to determine the cause this way.

You may try testing the camera while it's on external power (just plug an USB cable from the charger). If that solves the hanging issue - it's most likely the faulty battery. If not - I would take it to a service. If there are no Samsung camera services, then generic one. If there are no such services - might try with smartphone service?

I doubt it's the mobile app's fault but maybe try re-flashing the firmware? Howto here: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/samsung-nx300-firmware-update,news-18783.html and links to firmwares here https://samsungnx.herokuapp.com

Does the camera still take a photo? i.e. can you take a photo, and if so  put the memory card into a device (laptop etc.) and see an image?

This may help narrow down where the problem lies...

The camera does not take an image. I can view past images if I put in a memory card.

Do you know of any methods that I can use to power on the camera without the battery?

I tried removing the batter and inserting directly to USB port but the machine does not power on.

You need a battery, a real one or a dummy battery that is connected to external DC source.

Another user told me that battery is most likely fine as camera and icons come on and that it is most likely a faulty sensor. Do you think that could be the case?

That is correct. Battery is working, shutter curtains are not covering the sensor, so it's most likely that the sensor is dead or disconnected (cable connecting the sensor to the board can fall out due to a hit or similar). As your camera is second hand, it is possible even if you didn't drop the camera.

Thanks for telling me. I will try opening it just to try and see if I can somehow fix it. Do you think that this will be worthwhile and possible to repair?
