25th September 2018 – Panasonic has announced the launch of LUMIX PRO, a hub for its LUMIX professional users that will provide an extensive support and service network while developing the needs of creative professionals. In recognition of the fact that photographers and videographers require more than just products within their everyday working life, the programme has been designed to ensure that they can continue to shoot whilst being assisted with a range of service and repair benefits and consistent global support.

LUMIX PRO is an expansion of the Lumix Professional Services programme currently running in Japan. LUMIX GH4, GH4R, GH5, GH5s and G9 customers will be able to register for LUMIX PRO services within the US, Germany, UK, France, Italy and Spain*.

Seems very camera-centric

The word 'lens' appears twice in the write-up. Only one has to do with servicing a lens. Not too sure if this addresses the "no repair for expensive lenses" thing.

Funny, the word 'camera' only appears once.

On the actual Lumix Pro website, they even have photos of someone removing the mount bayonet from both a PL100-400 and a PL12-60...

The "about" page on that site you linked says:

"We are excited to begin offering personalized Lumix camera, lens and accessories support for our imaging professionals."

So, if someone should buy a lens sold as pro-gear, e.g. 200/2.8 and do not have any one of the cameras on the list and do not intend to own any of those cameras, would they ever be able to enjoy this service?

If yes, is there a corresponding list of lenses that qualify for this service?

Eligibility requirements aren't up yet.

If it's anything like Canon or Nikon Professional Services, which would be the gold standard, you typically require two bodies and two lenses that they consider to be on their professional list.

I wonder if non Lumix Pro members (if you have not paid the $199 annual membership) will benefit by spares and repair facilities being available for all Panasonic Lumix and Leica lenses at a reasonable cost... ie. NOT the swap for reconditioned lens policy at almost new price but similar to what Olympus service has for all their products available to everyone without membership? I do not need a 2 day turn around for free with a subscription service. I just want a reasonable price repair that requires some basic parts and a trained repair person.

What's sad to me is at least the appearance that it took Panasonic's interest in getting into full frame to, finally, announce professional-style after sales support.  Pros have been using their cameras for years now, in very professional settings, but Panasonic never seemed to want to go out of its way to create a "Pro" service system - until now.

How convenient

A rising tide lifts all ships, in this case.

In the end, you're still ending up with a much more desirable situation, so why complain about how it arose?

Separating the users to first-class and second-class will not help the image. They should have launched it across EU.

Oly, take note.

If you want to crack the pro market, you need to provide the level of support to which they are accustomed with CaNikon.

Next up is an agreement with one of the major PJ houses to distribute the gear. I'm sure the PJ crowd would appreciate a little less weight. Why not?
