Is the BG-E5's grip thicker than the 450D's grip?

My hand cramps up because the 450D's grip is too thin (the side-to-side width when you look at the front of the camera). In pictures online, it looks like the BG-E5's grip is thicker, but you can't really tell.

To answer my own question, the BG-E5's grip is a little thicker at about 1 1/4 inches, compared to the 450D's 7/8" grip. Sadly, it's still too shallow, not deep enough to be any more comfortable. It needs to be about 1/2 inch deeper to avoid hand cramps.

You might have to try one of the xxD models for size, or even full frame. Their battery grips are bigger too.

Edit: Just measured my 70D's battery grip. The grip area itself (front to back) is 2 7/8 inches wide. The "side to side" width of the gripping area (when looking from the front) is 1 3/8 inches, (to the body it is 1 5/8 inches). The depth (where your fingertips go) is 1 1/8 inches.  Hope this is helpful.  R2
