Canon ES-60 Lens Hood

.
An image of the Canon ES-60 Lens Hood has surfaced. The shape isn't one I'm particularly fond of (I prefer the petal type) although i note that Canon prefers the tubular type of lens hood for some bright primes like the 50mmL and 85mmL lenses.
.
Looks to have a lockdown tab on the side (similar to the EF 100-400mmL USM lens hoods) which ought to be just shy of the Minimum Focus Distance. These hoods appear to be Made in Malaysia where Canon's plastics manufacturing plant has been located for some time. I wasn't going to buy a lens hood for this lens but I may yet reconsider if the price isn't ridiculous. The image below is a mockup if how I think the hood ought to look on the lens (posted a few days ago in another thread).

Ditto, I will probably go with JJC when they have it. Pricing is a bit of shocker lately on these original lens hoods.

I am not sure it's a matter of preference, I can imagine it's more about optics and field of view: petal type hoods for wide-angle primes and zoom starting with wide angle, tubular hoods for everything from 50mm and longer, referring to Canon full frame lenses.

32mm  x 1,6 = 51,2mm -> tubular type lens hood...;-)

I see RF 50mm f/1.2 with non tubular type hood.

That's just ridiculous.  So the original Photoshopped image was actually correct.  Looks like I won't need to secure one of these stupid things.  What a bizarre decision from Canon.  The tiny little lens hood on the 11-22mm lens was undersized.  Now this.  Oh man.  Does Canon understand the concept of modern design Vs consumer desire?  This is literally worthy of mockery.

Yeah, I'm going to buy one of those.  But the design factor should have come along with the 50mm lens.  At least the optics are recessed and I can add a filter (which will shield the lens further from side-flare).
