Hi All,

So i have decided to sell my current kit

Nikon D7100

sigma 18-35mm 1.8

sigma 50-150mm 2.8

Nikon 10.5 mm fish eye 2.8

All for the XT3. I do a lot of travel photography, street and some portraits. My question now is, is the kit-lens worth buying with the camera? or body only and then source out other lenses like the 16-55mm 2.8 from fuji. I had this set up in mind below:

XT3 with 18-55 kit lens

fuji 35mm 1.4 or 35mm f2?

Thanks

Depends on your budget.  Kit lenses from all makers - and yes that includes Fuji - are not their top of the line.  Good glass will last over multiple cameras.

To complicate the buying dilemma Fujifilm are releasing a 16-80 f4.0 WR OIS next year.

This is making me hesitate on getting the 18-55. I thought I had read that the 18-55 also has some field curvature issues which would be a problem for landscapes. I’m considering getting the 10-24 or a couple of primes in the meantime, and then getting the 16-80 once it’s out. I feel like the 16-80 range will be much more convenient for a single walk around lens than the 18-55.

The 16-80 might end up being a huge lens

Fujirumors has some comparison images: https://www.fujirumors.com/fujinon-xf-16-80mm-f4-and-xf-16mm-f2-8-vs-other-fujinon-lenses-size-comparison/

Looks about the same size as the 10-24, but still smaller and likely lighter than the 16-55. The 18-55 is definitely a small lens, so I think the 16-80 could be well balanced on the X-T and X-H bodies.

No question on this one. Get the 16-55mm f/2.8. It's a fantastic lens. Wish I had chosen it instead of the kit lens from the get-go.

There's nothing in the Fuji lineup that is as good as your Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8. The Fuji 18-55mm f2.8-4 is a good kit lens, but it's incredibly overrated and not worth at all it's standalone price.

If you want a compact standard zoom, you basically got no choice. So buy it with the body, that way you will pay an acceptable price for it (about $300, which is still a bit expensive for what it is).

The 35mm f/1.4 is a good lens, it's compact and the price is acceptable. It's not weather sealed though, I don't know if that's important to you, just keep it in mind. The 35mm f/2 is weather sealed, sharper, cheaper, smaller and has better AF. It's worth a look.

If you're really into portraits and you want something compact, the 50mm f/2 is absolutely stunning (good AF, weather sealed, compact, with amazing image quality at a good price).

The price of the 18-55 is a steal when bundled.  Get it!

I honestly can't think of any reason to pay MSRP for the 18-55. Get it with a camera or second-hand from someone who did.
