exposure counter and file name

My GX7 had problems with rear dial so I send it for repair (luckily I bought extended warranty). Camera returned from repair and I noticed some strange change in file naming. Last photos before sending camera had name starting with P149xxx.RW2 while now I have P665xxx.RW2. If each taken photo increases the file name number then I have made 49k photos before sending it. I checked with https://www.apotelyt.com/photo-camera/panasonic-g-shutter-count and have

PWRCNT: 4224

SHTCNT: 23794

STBCNT: 1046

Of course shutter count doesn't include photos with electronic shutter so according to above I made circa 26k photos (out of 49k) with electronic shutter which for sure didn't take place. I would estimate number of electronic shutters as about 5k. Is there any explanation to name changing and shutter counter? Should I worry about it?

Re: exposure counter and file name

Do you have the camera having the same serial no. be returned?

The technician might have rest the no. for a few times? Each reset will bring it up 1K

You might reset the folder nu as below (p.59 of GX7 pdf manual):

Most likely they tested it using a random card in their repair shop, if the card had other files on it then the camera starts at the next highest number above what's on the card.

That's the fun of mixing cards and cameras without formatting the cards first.

It's no worry, there's usually a way of resetting back to 0001 in the file names to start afresh. Or with trickery and pain, getting back to the filename range that you had before it went for repair.

Re: exposure counter and file name

reset file number works in weird way. First I had to format card, reset file and catalog (!) numer to 100_PANA and P100001. Catalog reset can be done only when there are no files. Then rename folder from 100_ to 148_, and file number P100* to P148*. Now reset again file number and take photo (add 1k to file name counter) so I got 149_PANA and P1490001. Copy last file before repair and now it continues with correct numbering.

But still got question concerning service menu with number of shots taken. According to file naming I made 49k photos while counter shows only 24k. I can't believe I made 25k with electronic shutter which means more than normal shutter releases.

Thanks,

PM

Does Panasonic still flip folders at 0999 count? My LX3 does that while every other camera brand seems to flip at 9999.

When I had to adjust my LX3 folders and file numbering I used a method like this on my page at http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~parsog/panasonic/24-fileno.html
