Not sure what you're asking. Any camera and any type of camera can make the image above. A polarizer has an effective angle it can work at. It's most effective at 90 degrees to the light source. If it didn't work for you, learn how a polarizer works and apply that knowledge to make the image.

All I got from my polariser was windscreen nothing behind. Hence It must either be a really expensive polariser and mine is rubbish, or its not quite the polariser. If you look the talent seems to be cut out in the screen, this would have been set and forget before he drives off, and thus taking into consideration the light changes at all times,

As noted above it's situational and pola effectiveness varies depending on the angle of the light source, light quality, etc.

Worth noting mirrorless cameras do not require a circular polarizer; a simple linear pola works on them and those can be more effective than CPs. They also have a lower filter factor than all but a few CPs.

Having shot cars with polas I find they're typically effective but not always. Windshields especially are tricky because they're a glass and plastic sandwich that itself is a polarizing element, frequently creating goofy patterns.

Keep experimenting!

If that was the case, you had the polariser set at the wrong angle of rotation or the camera was at the wrong angle to the screen.

As a previous reply said, you need to experiment a bit to find what works best.

Yes, you certainly can. Practice and experiment until you find the right angle and polarization combination. Mirrorless is not keeping you from getting this effect. Hang in there.

Rotate the polariser, watch in the EVF/monitor, and stop when the reflection goes away.

As already said (in slightly different words), the polariser angle needs to be rotated 90 degrees to the reflecting surface, in the above case, the windshield.

If your polariser can't be rotated, then yes it sucks. But I think you just need to practice and learn how they work.

The Top Gear crew uses Panasonic GH4's a lot. Note also that this looks to have been filmed in Winter, with the Sun hanging low in the sky, so the presenter's face caught a lot more light than it would in Summer (unless you'd shoot very early or late in the day).

btw, Top Gear has some of the best camera and editing people in television today -- it won't be easy to match their skills (or resources).

True enough. Their road crew is enormous and they attract top-notch directors for various episodes. Some of their unusual POV shots have had me scratching my head in wonder.

Cheers,

Fair enough... yes - not worth stressing over - I think if it was as easy as turning a polariser than everyone on youtube would be doing it, and top end film crews would all be out of work.

This might come across as a bit wonky (harkening back to my photographic undergraduate days) but when dealing with polarizers and reflective surfaces, the angle at which light is most attenuated will vary according to the surface material. Glass and water, for instance, have different angles for maximum reflection reduction. For glass, it's about 57°. Also, because different colors of light will have slightly different angles, you cannot eliminate all reflections from white light. Hope this helps.

Interesting... ... Maybe I bought a sh&* one...

They go from around £20 - My one to around £100 ... I think we might have a point here!

Is it possible that you have inadvertantly fixed the polariser on the lens the wrong way round. They are directional.

hahah that is highly entirely possible

If you look at this film I twist it at the beginning to show an effect....:) best I could do

Seriously. I’ve known people try to use filter systems with their polariser mounted back to front and think it wasn’t working properly.
