Looking for zoom lens with more "reach"

I'm an amateur-hobbyist with a Panasonic Lumix DMC GX7 and Lumix 14-45 lens. I'd like a lens with a bit more "reach", maybe "12-60" or "14-140" or "14-150".

In the old days I loved the range my Canon 28-135 gave me, so the 12-60 would get me close to that, but still short. The 14-140/150 may be more than I need.

What to do?

The contenders:

Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6

Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm f2.8-4

Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6

Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f/4-5.6 II

The price on the contenders are in the same ball park, except for the more expensive Leica Elmarit.

Your ideas.......? Something else out there I should look at?

Appreciate your thoughts and suggestions!

If you can manage it, the Olympus 12-100 f/4 would be the ideal everything in one lens.  But, the Panasonic Leica 12-60 is also a good choice.

Re: Looking for zoom lens with more "reach"

Depends on what camera you used with your 28-135.  If it was a film body, the the 12-60 gets you pretty close.  If you used it on an APS-C DSLR, then it would fall well short.

I really like the 14-140ii for an all purpose lens with good range.  For longer stuff, I like the Pany 100-300ii.

Note you can get the 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6 for drastically less than the others if you buy a de-kitted one (~$250). What this lens would give you is a little bit wider view and a bit more reach.

Given I already had the 12-32mm, that lens would have been a bit redundant. I got the 14-140mm II for my GX85 and it's a perfect match. Hardly bigger or heavier than the 45-150mm (which I might have got instead) and very convenient for travel. The IQ is excellent for a superzoom.

Not owned both versions of 12-60. The PL f/2.8-4 version is a premium class lens without doubt on its IQ, at a cost and larger/heavier. Can't get comparable test result to compare but AFAIK, the non PL version could be similar to the recent kit class of lens of 12-32. So supposingly not bad at all. 12-60 is a very desirable zoom range to me.

According to DXO, 14-140 is better than 14-150, which is already quite a good superzoom lens. On GX7, due to the primitive IBIS, when going to the longer focal length zone, I'll prefer the Lens OIS of 14-140 for the 3 stops of stabilization.

If you need 12 AoV as me, 12-60, might add a cheapy/small 45-150 will do. I use a 12-35 f/2.8 & 45-150 (also 7-14 f/4) set up on GX7 for my traveling.

If you don't need the 12, 14-140 would be a perfect one lens solution on Pany body. Stop it down to f/4, basically it has similar IQ to 12-35 f/2.8 at the same aperture. Comparing to 45-150, 14-140 has better IQ (marginally). It is my wife's only lens on GX85.

Hi Jake.  Glad to hear the 14-140 II is your perfect match.  I'm going to give it a good look!

I think the lumix 14-140 is one of the best zoom all around lenses. Personally I have taken some of my best photos with it. The Leica 12-60 would also be a great but expensive choice, starting from 12mm. I have the cheaper lumix 12-60 which is also fantastic.

Hi alcelc.

Great suggestion about using lens OIS for 14-140

Sorry I don't know what AoV is. Please explain.

Seriously looking at the 14-140.

Thanks

Hi Yannis.

Thanks for your feedback. I'll be in Greece this fall and will be using the new lens, which one I'll decide on soon!

I was in Greece this past Summer and used the PL 12-60mm as my main lens:

https://microfourthirdssite.wordpress.com/2018/06/29/whats-in-my-camera-bag-micro-four-thirds-travel-lite-greece-edition/

But you'll see from my writeup that I missed the reach of the 14-140mm over the better IQ of the PL12-60mm.

The 14-140mm used to be my main travel lens and I think I'll be reverting to it for my next trip. Here's me using it for my trip to Vietnam last December:
