Re: Suggestions for G19 replacement.

Thanks again Dave.  I noticed the manual online is 223 pages long.  It would be handy to have a printed copy that a person could review at leisure.

I'm a little bummed out by the fact that the G7X does not have the "selective color" feature.  I know it's just a novelty, but would be fun to have. I wonder if Nikon might have some patent rights to that feature.

Re: Why not go mirrorless? Because...

Cost, size and reach..!

I have a mirror-less camera.  A very good Sony a6300.  While inexpensive for a mirror-less, it's still much more expensive than what the original poster wants. And...it's a much larger camera, especially depending on the lens.

With a "pancake" lens, you are severely limited in reach.  I bought a 50mm for my a6300 just for that reason, overall size.  While it's a fairly decent lens, all it gives is...50mm.  MANY/most times you need more reach..!

Dave,

PS: Do you know if the Canon G7X Mark ll comes with a printed manual ?

Mine (a Canon refurb) came with a full printed manual.

What I got with my new camera was a thick, multi-language "Getting Started" manual which does not contain all that is in the electronic manual which is internally labeled "PowerShot F7 X Mark II Camera User Guide".

My mistake -- I got the same as you. I didn't look at it closely, and assumed it was a full manual based on the size. I do generally work from the electronic versions anyway.

Regarding the selective color feature, I believe that has historically been included in older Canon cameras but was dropped in more recent versions of Digic, along with panorama stitch assist functions and others. I never really understood the logic behind removing these features, either.

Re: Suggestions for G16 replacement.

Sorry about this, but I just noticed that my subject line is in error.  It is a Canon G16 that I have.  Don't know why it has taken me so long to catch this error.

Perhaps most of you knew that I meant the G16.

I appreciate all of the help and comments I have received.

Re: Suggestions for G19 replacement.

Had G16 before, as scaling down from DSLR.

Turned out, that G16 isn´t enough. Especially due to the sensor size, and lens also was SO-SO for the money.

I absolutely agree on G7X II. Lovely camera.

I jumped on EOS M6, and except for mising zoom lens in a compact setup I carry with me, I am very happy with this one. It´s my daily driver just because of the image quality it delivers. For that, I´m actually more likely to shoot the camera. It is another level of addiction.

I looked briefly thru the menus but couldn’t find it anywhere, maybe someone else knows about that.

Re: Suggestions for G19 replacement.

I was unhappy about losing the panorama mode.  My much okder canons all have it.

Re: Suggestions for G19 replacement.

Among my DSLR cameras, I also have the PowerShot G15 (as well as some other point and shoots, including the original RX100). Of all my P&S cameras, the G15 is by far my favorite. Versatile, great lens, ND filter, lots of options, and great image processing make for a stellar shooting experience with that body. Further, I have found few limitations with it.. so much so, its one of my favorites to use for landscape.

Here is a shot I did with the G15 yesterday. Left the lens flare in there, as it would have been a b*tch to edit out. As you can see, its clearly not hurting with its image quality, or DR.

Sunrise shot in Violet Andrews Park in Portland, Texas.

I didn't see the price restraint.  But, a Sony A5100 is small, cheap, flip screen, larger sensor( better images) and more flexibility.
