new EF-M 32mm f/1.4 coming! Price???

It’s good news unless it won’t fit APS-C models and only FF MIRRORLESS. - which is less likely.

https://www.canonrumors.com/the-canon-ef-m-32mm-f-1-4-stm-confirmed-again/

EF 50mm f/1.4 release in 2008 at USD$325.

My guess it’s probably around $399 if without IS.

Add $100 with IS. What do you all think the price would be?

I'd think the price might be SOMEWHAT determined by how the crop M-series fits in (or doesn't fit) with the upcoming FF ML.

Is it part of a more robust system? Or is the M forever destined to be an outlier?

I'm hoping for something cheap, inspired by the $125 Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens.

EF-M 50mm f/1.8 would be around that price if they ever design one.

The one thing im really hoping for, but dont expect, is that the lens isnt STM, but Nano USM. That is just so much faster than STM. Even in the small EF-S/M primes you can feel a lag compared to USM and Nano USM.

This is an important lens for the M-series. It's overdue but it's essential. This is said to be an EF-M lens so it's clearly designed to fit the existing M-series range of APS-C cameras and I going to be a 50mm equivalent lens suitable for portraits and low light. The bokeh should be more than most can ask for if it's f/1.4 with a focal length of this figure.
.
I'd expect something akin to around $400. Canon want to establish their EF-M lenses and they want to do so at an attractive price. I'd be very surprised if this lens is more than $500... and if it is, it will need to possess IS for that price.
.
With Canon expected to announce their FF mirrorless camera in about a month, and with strong indications they'll announce it with TWO 'EF' series 50mm lenses (f/1.4 and f/1.2 Mk II), I think that this 32mm lens will be just for the EF-M series. And that's a good thing. More EF-M lenses means more leverage on the mirrrorless market. There's something magical about lenses with fast, wide apertures but they don't need to be obscenely expensive. They certainly aren't too difficult for Canon to mass-produce these days. With the speed of recent releases from Canon lately, it's wouldn't surprise me if they announce a new EF-M body at the same time they announce the mirrorless FF.

Knowing canon and past ef-m lenses and for reference 35mm 1.8 lenses are not usually cheap this one is around that at 32mm 1.4, i'm almost sure won't have IS, and should be around the $400-550 price, again just for reference Sony's 35mm 1.8 with IS, is $400-450, sigma lens for sony aps c mirrorless 30mm 1.4 is $330

USM vs STM vs Nano USM
5

There seems to be a lot of confusion in this thread about the different focus motor varieties.

USM - This is a ring type motor roughly 5mm in cross section and with a diameter almost as big as the lens using it.  Think of it as an electronic hand that spins the mechanical focus ring.  One rotation of this motor = one rotation of the focus ring.

STM - This is a very small can motor to one side of the optical path.  Instead of a shaft like a typical motor these are designed with a hollow, threaded core.  When the motor spins, it drives a treaded screw in and out.  The threaded screw is directly connected to the focus group.  This motor needs to rotate numerous times to cover the entire focus throw.

Nano USM -  Electrically, they are a USM moter, but instead of a ring, the motor is a flat line.  Like STM, the motor is directly connected to the focus group.  These are also called "linear" motors and they are often used in mirrorless lenses from other manufacturers and are often used in multiples.

Re: USM vs STM vs Nano USM

So, is there a standard USM and a NANO USM and if so, which is best?
