Re: Could you take a picture on the back

Worth to try Tom's no battery for a minute to clear the cache suggestion.

Also, have you tried to tap on the AF icon in LCD to see would one time AF been performed? If yes, likely your lenses, the contacts and AF system are ok. I might suspect the AF/MF lever machanical problem.

Re: Panasonic stuck in MF (no switch on lens, and camera switch does nothing)

Hi Tom,

Thank you for the suggestion, I have tried all the basic troubleshooting tips, a previous post also suggested this method. I've left the battery out for an hour without luck. Further to this, I believe this issue happened years ago, but being new to the camera world I didnt realise the cause for the AF had to suddenly vanish.

Now, that I am wanting to learn and use the camera, I came across this forum along with a few others with the exact issue. No one has listed a solution. Interestingly this issue occurred to someone with a G9 model as well. The last post on that forum he was sending it back to panasonic, but unfortunately didn't provide a final update.

Hopefully we can get the resolution, and have the answer posted here, so anyone else with this issue knows the fix, or understands that Panasonic Lumix may have a hardware/firmware fault, and that it wasnt rectified in the newer models. Lets hope this is not the case and the fix is straight forward.

Cheers

Danie

I'm wondering if there might be a communication error between the lens and the camera.

When you take an image (using any of the three Panasonic lenses), does the name of the lens show in the EXIF information? When you take two images using different apertures, of different focal lengths (using either of the zoom lenses), do the different values show in the EXIF?

Do your camera and lenses use the latest firmware?

Re: Panasonic stuck in MF (no switch on lens, and camera switch does nothing)

Thank you for the advice on what to check. I have already updated all lenses and camera.

I took a few shots from different lenses changing aperture as suggested, I then checked the EXIF and Maker Notes data and can confirm all data is correct, lens name is displaying correctly along with settings.

The one setting the is not displaying correct is FocusMode, which is showing as manual even though switch was set to AFC for these pictures.

If the behavior of the camera is consistent with it switched to MF on the physical switch, then unfortunately I would say it is most likely a defective AF switch. Have you tried toggling that switch back and forth as per previous suggestions?

Unlike other cameras without such a switch, it is no possible to override it in software.

hi i have the same camera and the same problem .When I press the AF/AE button the autofocus starts focusing automatically which means it works so I think it's a mechanical problem not a software one

It means that the shutter button cannot do AF?

What is your shutter AF setting. Had you ever tried to set up for BBF such that had Shutter AF set to OFF without setting it back?
