NX2000 - Will not sync with computer & only turns on when take battery out/in

Hello all. I just received a mint condition NX2000. It seems to take photos fine, although I cannot sync it with any of my computers. When I try it merely states "No card" on the camera display. I have been using it for a few days without a memory card, and I don't know if it is saving any of the photos. I just ordered a 32GB Samsung EVO micro SD card yesterday, and will try it when it arrives.

I have installed the disk that came with the camera with the iLauncher software on two computers. One running Windows 7 and one running Windows 10 (from some web browsing it appears that the software may not be supported by Windows 10, although it let me install it on my laptop and upgrade the software.

As the camera is a few years old, I ordered two Powerextra BP1130 batteries and a wall charger. I thought this would solve the problem with the camera not powering up when I rotate the top dial from off to on. It did not. The only way to turn the camera on (and it works every time) is to put the power switch to the on position and take out the battery and reinstall it.

Any help other NX2000 forum owners have would be greatly appreciated!

I can't help with the power issue but I can tell you the camera does not save any images without an SD card. It will show you the last photo you take but not save it. There's no internal storage so any shots you've taken without a card don't exist unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply. Once I get the Micro SD card in the mail in a few days I will insert it in the camera and see if this helps with the sync to computer issue.

Re: NX2000 - Will not sync with computer & only turns on when take battery out/in

OK - so I just got a Samsung EVO Select 32GB microSDHC UHS-I Card in the mail in inserted it correctly into my NX2000. Within a few seconds, the display on the back of the camera states: "Card not supported" Does anyone out there have a short list of MicroSD cards that actually work in this camera? I guess I was being naive to assume that a current Samsung MicroSD card would work in a Samsung NX2000 camera. Thanks in advance your your reply.

The card should work. When you take the power issue and now the SD card issue, it appears to add up to a defective camera.

Do you think swapping out the computer motherboard in the camera may solve the issue? I am very adept at this type of repair and can buy a motherboard for this camera for between $40 and $60 on ebay.

I can't say; I don't know much about camera repair.

Well I took the leap and took the camera apart. Not too difficult - only about 8 screws and carefully popping the case in two with a plastic pry tool used in cell phone repair. I also purchased a new computer motherboard on ebay from China. When I get it in about 3 weeks, I will install it and let you know if it works out or not. I will also attach photos of the disassembled camera and close up photos of the motherboard.

Re: NX2000 - Will not sync with computer & only turns on when take battery out/in

A new card would have to be formatted in the camera, not in a computor. If you can get into the menu with the gear that should have a format option. I have an NX 300 and my grandaughter was using it and gave it back to me with a batter half in and half out stuck in place it was an after market Power 2000 I believe my wasabi charger was not so smart and continually over charged it. It was not stuck very hard and pulled out with some channel lock pliers.

I bought 2 of the BP 1130 power extra batteries and a charger on Amazon. The batteries are charged showing 8.3 volts on a vom but the screen stays blank when I turn the camera on. Reviewing the manual it says the internal battery if completly discharged may tak 72 hours to recharge with a fully charged battery inserted and camera in off mode. So I have a fully charged battery in the camera and it is plugged into its micro usb and factory charger. Samsung states that the battery may not recharge at all if plugged into a USB hub and may not charge properly if plugged into a computor USB port. The model number on my Samsung USB charger is etaou61JBE its output is 5 volts 1. amp input 100-240 ac. It is a tiny thing but must have some smart stuff going on to charge a 7.5 volt battery and run on variable input voltages.

I ran this camera for years using the Wasabi charger for the batteries, always pulled the batteries and charged in the charger, never used the USB beyond the initial charge up before I got the wasabi. I may be unfair to blame the Wasabi for the swollen batteries as that seems to happen even to AA recharables charged in the batteries OEM charger.

I tryed your trick of inserting battery with camera switched on it did not work for me. That would generally be a not recomended practice to remove or install while switched on. So I will see what happens after 72 hours of charging.

Re: NX2000 - Will not sync with computer & only turns on when take battery out/in

I thought that as my camera was behaving similar to the OP that I would  post my problem with my NX 300 then it either of us has any sucess it will all be in one spot. My camera has been charging for 3 days on its usb charger and the batteries are being charged in the charger that was sold with the Powerextra batteries on Amazon. Looks like my camera is broken the power from the batteries does not get past the on off switch. Will look for a video on how to dissasemble, maybe it is just a cable unplugged or some other obvious misshap. Wish me luck!

Re: NX2000 - Will not sync with computer & only turns on when take battery out/in

Well I took the back off the camera and I cannot see anything looking off or disconnected. So I put it back together and will sell it for parts. Does not appear to have been dropped, no scuffs or dents. So why it failed is a mistery to me. It was working when I loaned it out and now its not.

Re: NX2000 - Will not sync with computer & only turns on when take battery out/in

So the new motherboard for my NX2000 arrived from China yesterday and I swapped it out with the original board (see photo of original motherboard attached to this post). All went well with initial turn on of the camera. It asked for the language, date, etc. It even recognized the Samsung 32GB EVO Micro SD card. I took the opportunity to plug it into my computer and uploaded the latest firmware into the camera. I then took about 50 random photos and a video to test it out - all went well and then downloaded photos to computer. It was even turning on and off with the power switch on the top of the camera.

Then it randomly decided that the memory card was: "Card not supported." So I took the memory card and formatted it in my computer - then it accepted it and I took a several more photos and it synced well with the computer.

This morning it turned on fine and I took several more photos. An hour later it would not turn on, so I tried the old take the camera battery out - turn the camera on - and put the battery back in. The camera turns on fine, screen it back all works, and lens is auto-focusing when you point it at different things, but camera display keeps saying "Card not supported." Anyone have any idea what may be causing this? Another hardware piece, software error, etc? I have four batteries for the camera and always use a well charged on, so I do not think this is the issue.

Possibly a bad card. Try another.

Re: NX2000 - Will not sync with computer & only turns on when take battery out/in

So the saga continues, I read a post on the net about leaving the battery in for some time (in my case 30 minutes) with the power switch in the off position. I then powered on the camera with the top power switch and it worked just fine. I took a few photos and then formatted the Samsung EVO 32GB card inside the camera (the card is only a few weeks old and I also bought a SanDisk 32GB card as well at that time). I took several more photos and a video, and I also used many of the touchscreen options and everything works fine. I am going to wait a few hours and try to turn it on again to see if it works. I will post something then.

Re: NX2000 - Will not sync with computer & only turns on when take battery out/in

I also have another question about updating the firmware on this camera. Yesterday I used the Samsung disk that came with the camera to upgrade the firmware to version 1.14 using Samsung i-Launcher software. I found on the internet where a guy in Germany has a site that purports to have firmware version 1.18 - here is the link - https://matteverglade.com/cameras/nx-firmware/

If I download this newer firmware, how do I get it to upgrade into the camera?

My NX2000 has the 1.18 firmware and I only ever used the official I-Launcher app for updating it, meaning that 1.18 is legit and at some point in time it was available through I-Launcher.

BTW, I honestly admire your dedication to bringing this lemon to life.
