Nothing odd about that! Pentax lenses are usually very good quality and have the distinctive advantage over some other manufacturers of being easy to use with an adaptor, the aperture ring working in stop-down mode with no modification or adjustment

Yes, I know some cheaper "kit" lenses don't have an aperture ring, but mostly they do, and there's a wide range of PK-mount lenses available from many third-party manufacturers dating back over 40 years

This is a pretty good lens, some people call it the Stack of Primes. I think it's a bit of exaggeration but really like it. It makes excellent flower pictures and nice portraits. I use it both on my Pentax K-S1 and the Samsung. Here are more photos from this lens: https://www.flickr.com/photos/alex_virt/albums/72157699614530184

The adapter works with modern lenses too, but if there's no aperture ring, the exact F-stop can't be set.
