Yes, it is heavy.

Yes, auto-focus speed is so-so.

Yes, there's a IS 85mm 1.4 now

Yes, it was released quite some time ago.

Get it. No other lens can compare.

Based on the overall tone of this post I can see that you are quite happy with the lens. However, with all the cons you list and absolutely nothing positive beyond a vague "no other lens can compare" it really doesn't inspire much enthusiasm in me. Would you care to elaborate what makes this lens so worthwhile then?

Was using my own EF 85mmL II lens last night.  It's true, nothing compares.

Re: GET IT

I'm happy with my 135mm F2 and 100mm L macro combo, but if I had to buy a 85mm lens right now, I would buy the new 85mm Tamron with IS, without hesitation,

Reasons; Decent weight, decent price, , low CA, sharp, very good image quality and nice bokeh.

Re: GET IT

I completely agree. I am yet to see a more flattering portrait lens. The subject seems to have been rejuvenated on this lens. Even the venerable 24-70mm is beaten hands down.

Just ordered TWO!  And an iMac Pro, loaded!  Sold my life insurance to pay for both!

JK,

Love your review and enthusiasm!   A friend let me borrow his a few years ago! It's great. But I am quite happy with my paid for 28-70 2.8L vintage 1996 or so. LOL.
