Selling NX gear on eBay - any demand?

I recently tried to sell my NX3300 on eBay. I have had it 2 or 3 years but it is in very good condition and I've never had any problems with it.  I had a reserve price of just £150 but there were no takers. I thought this was a very good price but I'm wondering if prices on Ebay are deceptive. There are currently 5 or 10 NX3300s listed on eBay, most of them ranging from £250 - £500. One is even listed at £1000!! What is going on here? Brand new from a camera shop this camera would be worth £300-£400 maximum, even if it wasn't a discontinued system.

My conclusion is that there actually isn't much demand for the NX cameras now apart from the NX1 and NX500.  Other models will only sell if they are very cheap. I think a lot of the listings are at unrealistic prices, knowing that they won't be sold, just to give a false impression of what a fair price is. Am I right or just paranoid?! And what do you think is a fair price for the NX3300 (with the 20-50mm kit lens)? Less than £100 and I would rather keep it as a backup for my NX500!

Re: Selling NX gear on eBay - any demand?

I've no "finite proof" but I get a very strong feeling there's some kind of tax scam or similar whereby an item is listed on eBay at a ridiculously high price, doesn't sell, gets re-listed etc. etc. for no seemingly useful purpose ... unless somehow one can claim back the "overheads"?

One practice I am aware of is listing at an "optimistic" price with "best offer" option, where the "best offer" has been pre-negotiated. This allows the deal to go through apparently legitimately ... exactly what the benefits are I'm not sure, but I have been offered the option!

It's also just possible that the sale of an inconspicuous item at a ridiculously inflated price could provide an apparently legitimate cover for something more "suspect" being shipped ... of course, that's pure speculation

Or it could simply be naive optimism on the part of the seller or someone showing off ... "Look what I've got!"

FWIW I bought my NX5 with 18-55, 2 batteries, charger, card and case at local auction for £44, but that probably reflects local market forces more than anything else ... I wouldn't have paid a whole lot more!

I would ignore the for sale prices and instead look up the 'sold completed' items as these will give a better indication of what you're likely to get.

Good point.  eBay has it trending at £190.

Exactly right, I meant to mention this but the phone rang and I forgot!

The thing to remember with "trending" is that you may not be comparing like with like ... with or without lens, with extra lens, etc. and if there are relatively few sales of a particular item anyway it only takes a couple of dissimilar packages to skew the results.

Good luck

Nx1 and NX500 are still near the top of their segment, NX3300/3000 are 20mgpxls (everyone has a similar or greater megapixel count these days) while NX1/500 are 28 - still most in business, have no touch screen interface whatsoever, which was a strong selling point for NX those days, AF is rather primitive, even compared to the NX300 or similar cameras, its screen is nothing like the SAMOLED of the better models, video is so so, low bitrate with no 50/60 option and not much options, and the 20-50 is one of the less popular NX lens (no IS and at 20mm is not wide at all to be honest).

NX3000/3300 is a hard sell, when you can buy for similar money a much more advanced NX300 or other brand/system.

190pounds is too much for an NX3xxx camera and the 20-50. maybe with the PZ worths 190/200/220£.

My opinion? Just keep it! I have 2 NX1/NX500 and NX3000.

15 months ago, on Amazon UK I bought an 50-150mm S lens for 1,100 pounds + taxes, NEW from Samsung with Amazon's house.

After one months Amazon cancel the selling, saying the item was lost and could not ship, returned almost all money except few pennies (?).

After 2 days the same item appears on Amazon CA (Canada) for 10,000 CAD (over 5 times the UK price).

I just ignore it, but I still do not understand what was going on.
Maybe some illegal schemes, who know.

I bought a 2nd hand NX300 from CeX (UK) for £100 and I think many selling Samsung cameras on Ebay are generally being over optimistic on their pricing. Even if you guess by looking at typical completed listing price you may still be in for a long wait because as you say, buyers are looking for top models only. NX500 price is still holding up well, maybe even risen recently..
