Canon 450D - changing mode when the dial is broken

I have a Canon 450D. The dial is broken. The camera is now stuck at Tv mode. Is there any way to change the mode to manual? I tried to twist what is left of the dial but it did not budge. It'll be four months before I can get it repaired. For now, I'll be content if I can somehow change it to manual mode. Thanks.

Re: Canon 450D - changing mode when the dial is broken

Most mode dials are integral with the entire top plate assembly (molded in, not screwed). I know you can buy replacement top plates (eBay, etc).  It's usually the center shaft that breaks.  Maybe you could Jerry-rig something.

Or perhaps the lower part of the dial (under the top plate) can be accessed and repaired. You'd have to search YouTube for a good disassembly video. Lots of teeny screws!

Best of luck to you!

Re: Canon 450D - time for a new camera?

Check Canon refurb store.  Good deals on modern cameras. Money better spent than on an old camera. IMHO
