Well, the Rebel certainly offers a cleaner file, especially on the last photo set. The first shot also appears to be somewhat sharper on the Rebel.

Dig those prices!

Digital was in such a huge state of flux back then!  I do not really look back on it fondly, LOL!

Thanks for posting,

Thanks for posting, only viewing on a tablet right now but both sets look decent to me.

I've often though of getting  another 28-105mm which was my main lens when I had the 300D back in the day and was quite happy with it. Not sure how well it would perform on today's 24 megapixel cameras though so have held back .

Not that I didn’t enjoy shooting digital back in its formative years.  I had an absolute blast!  I think my first digital camera was VGA (640x480 pixels).

But selecting a camera through that period was a real challenge.  Every one of them had huge  compromises to work around.  Glad I ended up with Canon tho.

I bought the 300D as soon as it was available and absolutely loved that camera. Bought it with the kit lens and also purchased a 300 f4 lens. The kit lens was outstanding.

Was really disappointed, when after several years of non-use, the shutter locked up.

Re: Memories ...

Wow...you have a lot of gear.  I thought I had a lot, where I'm actively using five cameras (three DSLRs and two mirrorless).  But you have a huge supply of equipment.

How is it calm?  Are you not excited about all the progress that has been made with the new cameras and lenses?  Maybe I misunderstood....

In the 2000s, there was a much greater choice of cameras and types of sensors.
The changes were daily, everything had to be invented. New cameras appeared every week...

Today, the photographic industry is in difficulty, the compact market has almost disappeared.
The very good ML cameras are at ridiculous prices, see prices for Nikon D9, Canon EOS R3, Leica M-11, Hasselblad X2D, etc.
The Sensors are almost all identical "with an overly digital rendering" and nothing really evolves for more than 12 years

I agree that there haven't been rapid changes (like we had before). The improvements have been slow, but there has been some. I do like using up to ISO6400...sometimes more depending on the lighting. There's talk about 200mp cell phones being developed in the near future. Would that technology be part of new camera designs?

Here's a ISO4000 photo I took today. It was very late in the afternoon and large trees blocked the sun, so the lighting was poor. I had to have a fast shutter speed and at the same time I wanted enough depth of field. So this is what I got. Previously I was limited to somewhere near ISO1600 with my Canon T3i (600D) camera.

You made me look at his gear list.  WOW!!! That's not a collection, it's a store.  I'm not hating, I'm jealous.  Must live in a huge house.

those with a lot of old cameras have interesting reviews about them.  they can compare cameras and have a good feel for the pros and cons.

The Nikon D3s still has a very good reputation for high ISOs, and it dates from 2009
See here at ISO 12800

The availability of bright light is going to reduce the noise too. This is what you'll commonly have when using high shutter speeds. I noticed that a long time ago, when I was using my Olympus E-510. Sometimes I'll get excellent ISO12800 photos from my Canon T7i (800D) camera in bright light when I want to use fast shutter speeds.

Why would you take something like that at 1/8000 of a second? What's the purpose for a landscaping type of scene like that? Usually I use higher shutter speeds at people events, where's a lot of action. Sometimes I have to do that for some of my wildlife photos too.
