For me this is one of the top 10 digital cameras of all time (collector's vision)

Here a mini comparative with another camera that I appreciate a lot

Minolta RD-3000 2.7 MP Sensor (1984x1360)
Price: US $ 3,400.00

I still have a few of them and they have surprisingly good image quality with those Vectis lenses .

I also have the earlier RD-175 , though that has far inferior I.Q to the later RD-3000 .

I have not used digital still camera before 2000. Started when canon released the DCS520.

But looking at the images you posted those good oldies are really fine collectors items. Thank you for sharing.

Yep, still have the complete set with the 17mm.

Bought it as a collectors item to add to my Minolta line-up.

Re: Who owns or has already owned the Minolta RD-3000 ?

Until APS film was provided in good freeze quality, I did use my Vectis S 240 film cameras. As I already had all the Vectis system lenses, my first digital steps were later based on the RD-3000, which I still own. I had 240 film for years in the fridge and so I used the RD-3000 more for in house or tripod shots, because the film S-1 is far more portable and compact than the clunky digital RD-3000.

At the same time my 240 film stock went to zero, I bought into the Fuji X system and so I put both film and digital Vectis cameras into my collector drawer.

Apart from an annoying dust spot behind the sensor lens, my RD-3000 is still functional. (as are my S-1 bodies, but without film supply... this is another discussion)

I've got all the Vectis lenses and there all giving great results on both my Sony A7Riv and a6600 with the new auto focus adapter from Monster adapter.

https://www.monsteradapter.com/products/la-ve2-minolta-vectis-lenses-to-sony-e-mount-cameras-auto-focus-adapter

I got the original manual focus adapter in 2015 for £250 . When the opportunity to get an AF unit for £150 came up via a crowd funding site came up I jumped on it !

Yes, I saw a lot of good examples with the LA-VE2 adapter, incl. a few problems on some kind of lenses. I own the whole Vectis lens park too and I'm awaiting the new adapter in the next couple of days. Will have to find an E-mount camera as body (a6400,6500,6600?): I know there are 2nd hand offerings (or cheap new old stock) in town.

Which Sony would you suggest for this purpose?

Re: Who owns or has already owned the Minolta RD-3000 ?

I too have a Vectis lens collection, from the 17mm to 400 mm. I saw in one comment re using the adaptor that some lenses were prone to vignetting (possibly zooms). Any experience with this on individual lenses. Price of a Sony E mount camera is not insignificant but the ability to again use the V lenses on something small (Like the Sony A7C) is alluring.

Macro 50mm f/3.5

The Minolta V Macro 50mm f/3.5, is the only lens I have for my Minolta, which is excellent.

And here are my two comparisons, made in 2022, with my Minolta RD-3000

I'm using a monsteradapter for minolta md lenses on the a6300.
Think it would be better to go for in body stabilisation, since that could help a lot when using good old manual focus lenses.
This works great, not for fast moving people, objects or sports. It's a little bit slow with the autofocus for that kind of photography.

A Monster Adapter for Minolta MD ?

I wasn't aware they had made one , it's not on their website.

Agreed inbody image stabilisation is a big bonus for these lenses .

Sorry about the late reply , I didn't spot your post .

I got the Sony a6600 mainly because it is 100% compatible with the Sony LA-EA5 to use my Minolta/Sony A mount lenses on with OSPDAF rather than the old Sony LA-EA4 with its old SLT AF unit .

Also a big bonus in having IBIS that can be set manually for MF lenses , and gives it to all modern lenses fitted to it .

Choice of camera really comes down to budget if you don't use the Sony LA-EA5 where only the a6600 can use it fully .

Check the reviews on here , and the specifications , and get the one that suits you .

Preferably one with image stabilisation , so that really narrows it down .

I don't own one, but after seeing this video popping up in my YouTube feed I can say that it was first time hearing about this camera and its very interesting how they made it with the dual side by side sensor.

Figured I'd share it!
