M5 + 11-22 goes to Singapore for time blended cityscape photography

In case you missed by previous threads, by 'time blending' i mean manually blending multiple exposures together in photoshop that were taken at different points in time at the same location along sunset and blue hour.  This is a powerful technique in cityscape photography in particular, as the peak of the natural light (i.e. sunset) occurs earlier than the peak of the artifical lighting (i.e. the building lighting).   As in 2 shots below, I have also used this to combine late blue hour shots with laser light show lighting, which occurs well after blue hour.

Singapore core downtown skyline

Singapore skyline as viewed from the dock in front of the world's only floating Louis Vuitton store

Helix bridge leading up to the Marina Bay Sands hotel, with part of the laser lights on.  Note that the bridge lights are normally blue, but at this time were red because I shot this in the days leading up to Chinese New Year.

Another view of the Marina Bay Sands hotel laser light show.  This is a blend of 5 shots.

Relic Buddha temple in the heart of Singapore's Chinatown.  Juxtaposition of old world vs new world architecture.  As shot from the stairwell of the 12th floor of an adjacent apartment building.

Beautiful shots! I will be going to Singapore this coming November. I will definitely take some shots on that dock, while my gf shops at the LV store.

It's logistically a bit tricky

The dock is a floating platform, so it moves

and tourists love to come and sit right in front of the dock ledge during sunset (and other times; there were multiple wedding photo shoots happening when I was set up there)

Thanks for the heads up. It will be tricky for me as well shooting at sunset, as I plan on only bringing my M6 + EF-M 22mm. Any advice on shooting without IS?

Also, any shots from the Gardens by the Bay?

Yup, speculation over a maybe new camera, 100's of comments, bitching about lens, 100's.  Meanwhile a post like this with some of the most beautiful photo's I've seen get almost no comments and will fade away quickly, buried among the full frame whining instead of people using the lens and camera they currently have to take amazing photos like these.

Just goes to show you how powerful the combination of the M5 + 11-22 really is! Great work!

I was planning to bring this kit to New Zealand instead of my 5D IV with 16-35L.

I have always told people how amazing the little 11-22 is! This just clarifies my decison!

Thank you for posting this awesome set of images.

Did you use step up rings for your EF-M 11-22 and if so what was the filter size you adapted? Any vignetting issues at all?

Great work!

EXACTLY WHAT I STAND BY!!!!

yes I have both my 5D IV and 6D for event and wedding photography which I love using but for travelling and still creating incredible photos (so long as the photographer knows that he/she is doing) I have ZERO issues using the M5. Such a powerful little beast and seeing this only solidifies my confidence in this little device and especially the EF-M 11-22. Tack sharp lens that rivals my EF 16-5 f/4 L easily in my books.

I use step down 62mm to 55mm rings

bought 62mm firecrest filters because my largest lens uses that (rokinon 50mm 1.2 Ef-m)

Great thanks for the info. I am using Firecrest 77mm and using those step down which seem to work without issues either.

Great to see amazing images fusing such an underated but top notch lens.

Yes unfortunate that this body and lens isn’t weather sealed, keeping me from taking it to places like iceland and Patagonia

Honestly the whole weather sealing is for sure relevant and I do believe it helps but Canon bodies and lenses can take a beating, and no weather sealing will help with torrential downpours of rain or cold.........

A compact umbrella in the backpack doesn't hurt if you need to setup a longer shot. I am seriously considering only taking my M5  to New Zealand this February and simply taking a little more care out in the field........

M5

EF-M 32 f/1.4

EF-M 11-22

50 STM

EF 70-200 f/4 L II

For me the best travel setup man........

Unfortunately very true! I once posted an image here, the only comment I got was that it was too small, kind of made me not bother again...

To the OP, these are indeed great images well processed, well done, shows what these little cameras can do!

Amazing photos and very nice technique.

Is it easy to manually blend the pictures and create this result?
