Lens for Lumix G7 - advice needed

Hi. I'm new to this forum and hope you can offer some advice.

I have a Lumix G7 camera which came with a 14-42 lens. The camera has micro four thirds fitting.

I want a new lens with better Zoom and came across this Olympus ED 40-150 on eBay https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F173452051146

I assum that will fit my camera? Will it work with the auto focus? Are there any other lenses you can recommend? I'll need to but used.

Thank you

The item depicted there is a native m4/3 lens, just like the 14-42mm that came with your G7, so it will work just fine.

Are you sure about that?

I'm concerned that it may not be a Micro 4/3....but the regular 4/3 mount.

The description says, "This Olympus M.Zuiko f/4.0-5.6 Telephoto Zoom lens . . . ." An "M. Zuiko" lens is a native Micro Four Thirds lens.

Here it is new from B&H: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/827291-REG/Olympus_V315030BU000_40_150Mm_F_4_5_6_R_M_Zuiko.html

I had one, and it's amazingly good for the price.  It is widely regarded as one of the best bang-for-your-buck lenses in the MFT catalog.

good general lens

Thank you

This would fit.

there are multiple zoom lenses of this ilk

panasonic has a 35-100 in two different construtions

also has a 45-150 or a 45-175 and a 45-200 for the basic telephot zoom ranges.

the panasonic ones might be better, but I have done well with the 40-150 from olympus.

It is a micro four thirds lens and will fit your camera just fine.  It is also an underrated lens and give you the extra reach you seek.

I have that lens and it works with my G7 just fine BUT unless price is your main criteria, I would get the 45-150 Lumix because this has OIS. The M.Zuiko has no stabilisation.

In the right conditions, the M.Zuiko does produce very good images, but the Lumix is just as good and easier to use.

This.

Don't buy it!   The G7 has no in-body image stabilisation and neither has that lens. It is altogether too long to be without. Get a Lumix lens, which is stabilised, for that focal length range. Ideally a 14-140 so you can leave it on most of the time. It is a superb all-round lens for the G7.

G7 does not have in-body image stabilization.  As I understand it this lens does not have built-in stabilization?  Wouldn't he be better off with a Panasonic lens for a long zoom?

the OP might do better, but it did not seem to bother me with the lack of IS

Thanks for your advice. I ended up not getting it. I'm not experienced with lenses so don't know what I'm looking for. Will any Lumix lens work with the G7 and do auto focus?

Those branded Lumix G and Leica DG, yes. (Leica DG is still Panasonic.)

There are four Panasonic Leica lenses for regular Four Thirds. You're unlikely to come across them in the wild, but you can recognize them by the "Leica D" designation.

Thanks. I'll have a look at that list. Mine needs micro four thirds so I'll look for those reviews

Sorry, I should have been clearer: I called your attention to those lenses as the only four Panasonic interchangeable lenses you need to avoid.
